Gianna winced when she heard tiny screams.

“That’s… foreboding.”

“Yeah, Sililia told me they do that sometimes when you cook them.”

“They were still alive. Weren’t they?”

Gabe gave her a look. “Well, yeah. I got them fresh off the boat this morning.”

She couldn’t help but snort. Of course, he would act like she was the stupid one in this situation. Never mind the fact that he brought live animals into her home and just boiled them alive without telling her.

Gabe patted her shoulder, stealing her away from her thoughts. “Want to meet Sililia?”

Gianna narrowed her eyes. “It depends. Am I meeting your friend or yourgirlfriend?”

Gabe rolled his eyes. “Does it matter?”

“Well, I’m sure she’s stuck in the living room with Kozien cross-examining her and giving her the third degree. So, my help getting him to back off will depend on how serious this relationship is.”

She batted her eyes innocently at him, holding back a laugh when his mouth dropped open.

Gabe quickly turned and headed out of the kitchen. “Kozien!”

Leaning back in his chair, Kozien pushed his plate back and exhaled slowly.

The food had been wonderful, cooked perfectly in a savory sauce that he couldn’t exactly place, but knew he’d had it somewhere before. Gianna had more than outdone herself, and Kozien only wished they didn’t have guests so he could show her just how much he appreciated her.

“Thank you for the meal, Gianna.” Sililia, Gabe’s new girlfriend, gently patted her mouth.

Apparently, they’d met while working on the boat together, fishing with their crew. They’d slowly struck up a friendship followed by a very intense flirtation cycle—according to Gabe—and now here they were, a few weeks into being official.

Kozien struggled to hold back a laugh each time Gabe caught Sililia staring at him while they all ate. It was the typical sign of a Noxxa falling head over heels for their partner. The long glances, the subtle brush of touches when no one was watching, even the sharing of food.

It was all so obvious but Gabe was completely oblivious, making Kozien wonder if he’d been the same way. He’d looked at Gianna the same and acted the same way as Sililia was doing now, and she hadn’t noticed.

Were all humans like that?Oblivious?

Gianna smiled. “Of course. I’m glad I made it right.”

Kozien reached across the table to take her hand. “You did excellent.”

She blushed at his words, squeezing his hand gently in hers.

“Kozien.” Sililia turned to him, placing her hands demurely on top of the table. “Gabe told me you’re a prince?”

He hummed. “I used to be. I gave up my rights to the throne and title to be mated.”

Sililia blinked slowly at him, tilting her head.

Her long white hair cascaded over her shoulder while her pale lavender-colored eyes stared directly at him unflinchingly. He had to give her respect for not being intimidated by being in his presence. Typically, Noxxa were afraid of the Lorr warriors, but she seemed different.

Gianna squeezed his hand again. “Kozien helped me a lot when trying to find my brother.”

Sililia nodded, focusing her intense gaze on his mate. “Yes, he did say as much. I’m happy you were both reunited.”

Gianna smiled. “We’re happy, too.”

Once dinner concluded, and both Gabe and Sililia were escorted out for the night, Kozien wrapped his arms around Gianna and pulled her back into his chest. He buried his face in her neck, breathing in her sultry scent.
