“I’m waiting for you to kiss me.” He grinned when her brows furrowed. “That’s the deal. You’re supposed to give me a really great kiss. So if you want out of here, then I guess you’d better—”

She cut him off before he finished speaking. Pushing up on her tiptoes and leaning her weight into his body, with a scorching kiss she didn’t even know she planned to deliver, Abby kissed him hard on the mouth. Her still cuffed hands were trapped between them. She gripped the front of his shirt to keep her balance.

After a single beat, he engaged. His hands wrapped around her upper arms. His lips parted and his tongue licked its way inside her mouth with delicious intent. He was amazing. The kiss was amazing. She willed him to wrap his arms around her to cradle her closer. As if he searched inside her mind to discover exactly what she wanted, he suddenly did as she wished. His strong arms snaked around her back. He squeezed her tight. She was trapped in his embrace, kissing him as if her life depended on it. Maybe it did.

For as angry as she’d been at him the moment she laid eyes on him, Abby couldn’t help but be absolutely forgiving and a little turned on by the best kiss she’d ever had in her life. He was demanding. Forceful. Overwhelming. Very satisfying. She’d never had a man give her what she wanted before.

It figured that the best kiss she’d ever enjoyed was being delivered by a man who’d unapologetically ruined her life.

She was lost to their connection for an undetermined time, but soon the sounds of the crowd drifted to her. They were being watched. She stiffened in his arms, but he wasn’t deterred, or perhaps he didn’t hear the jeers and lustful cheers of the crowd. She tried to relax and enjoy the moment, melting into his strong body once again. She let him overwhelm her senses.

After several seconds of blistering oral connection, he broke the kiss and stepped back. Luckily he kept his hands wrapped around her upper arms or she would have fallen on the floor.

The crowd cheered once more and then finally started dissipating.

Abby was suddenly a little angry at herself for enjoying the kiss so very much. “Now that you’ve had your way with me, can I go?” Unwilling to think about how impactful his kiss had been, and that she truly wanted another one, Abby looked up into his eyes, waiting for his response.

Mostly she wanted to leave. If she didn’t get away from his compelling body, she might easily be lured into more than just a kiss.

But she wanted retribution, didn’t she?

She’d have to go to the sheriff in town and hope he’d listen to her and believe her when she told him about the meager evidence she had seen on one Zane Washburn, con man, thief, expert kisser, and someone she was losing interest in having arrested.

Zane cleared his throat with a smug expression that said he knew she’d enjoyed his kiss. He smiled, released her, and stepped away. “I suppose so.”

Abby’s lipstick stained his lips as if she’d marked him as hers. The idea of Zane being hers was vastly appealing in this sexually charged moment.

The crowd broke into applause and cheers as Zane led her from the jail cell.

“One more thing I want from you before you go,” he added. His gaze burned a hole straight through her.

“What do you want now?” She couldn’t seem to stop the smile her lips formed. Did he want to kiss again? She was certainly open to further lip-locks, if he wanted.

“You have me at a disadvantage. I just want to know what your name is.”

She stared at him for several seconds before quietly saying, “My name is Abigail Dixon.”

“Pleased to make your acquaintance, Abigail.”

She was about to tell him to call her Abby, but instead wanted to be released before another moment went by. “Can you please take these handcuffs off?”

“Sure.” As he moved a hand to his pocket, the crowd parted to allow two more lawmen into the hallway outside the jail cells. However, the uniforms they wore didn’t look like they came from the late nineteenth century. They looked fresh, crisply pressed, and very official.

“Hold up, Zane,” the stern-looking officer in the lead said.

“Hey, Duke. What’s up?” Zane looked at the man with surprise and question in his expression.
