“Do tell.”

She blinked, shifting her attention back to his face. Shaking her head slightly, she responded, “No. Better not. I want to be able to give you plausible deniability.”

“That’s funny. Okay.” Seth entered the room, lowering himself into the chair situated before her desk, hoping he wasn’t being intrusive. “Anything I can do to help?”

Her gaze moved to his face, which promptly softened as she stared at him. “Maybe,” she said finally.

“Are you going to give him his stamp collection back?”

“Not a chance in hell.”

“I obviously don’t know him as well as you do, but it seems to me that he will not go gentle into that good night unless you forcibly remove him.”

One shoulder lifted. “Well, I’m thinking about all the alternatives at my disposal.”

“Alternatives? Then you have more than one?”

She nodded. “Specifically, how can I trick him, still have my way, but also make him leave and never come back.”

“You’ve obviously thought this through more scrupulously than only winging it today when he showed up out of the blue.”

A grin appeared. “You have no idea.”

“He is lucky that I showed up this morning, isn’t he?”

She grinned wider and repeated, “You have no idea.”

“Remind me never to get on your bad side.”

She smiled again. “Is my bloodthirsty quest for vengeance making you nervous?”

“Not at all. In fact, it turns me on.” He gave her an exaggerated wink.

She quirked an eyebrow. “Didn’t you get enough last night?” They had exuberantly spent several rounds the night before in glorious ménage sexual wonder.

“Oh baby, I’ll never get enough of you. That’s the truth.” His gaze went to her desk, eyeing it for possible use in the next few minutes.

“Do not even think about pushing my papers off this desk, Seth.”

He winked at her again. “Stop reading my mind.”

“Don’t you have work to do?” she asked.

He lifted one shoulder, but it’s not like a busy schedule would stop him if she offered to “do” him on her desk. “Yeah. But I don’t want to leave you alone.”

“Don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine.”

“You say that like you mean it, but you’re using a very sinister tone, my love. I’d say Chucky better watch his ass.” He shifted forward in his chair, his elbows now resting on his knees, but he didn’t leave.

“Maybe. But I promise not to use my evil powers against you or Garrett.”

“Truth is, I don’t believe you even have any evil powers. You are sweeter than sugar-coated honeycomb.”

“Oh, I have one or two wicked evil plots roaming around in my head. Ones I’ve saved to use exclusively on Chucky if the opportunity ever presented itself. Now is my big chance.”

“I’m so glad I’m your other husband and not your ex.” Seth could barely fathom the idea of being her husband, let alone admitting it. Although the words got easier and easier to say with each passing day they spent together.

Her gaze lifted and drilled into him. “Are you bothered by that?”

“What?”

“Saying you’re my other husband.”

“No.” He returned her intent stare. “Not even a little bit.” Sort of.

“Because I’m not asking—”

“I know.” Seth stood up, and she didn’t finish her sentence. Seth stared deeply into her now troubled expression.

He wasn’t concerned about saying the words, husband, wife, or marriage. In fact, he’d been contemplating Jessica being his bride quite frequently of late. Asking her to marry them was the next logical step, wasn’t it?

Was he ready to do that? Was Garrett? Was Jessica? Whatever the answers were to all those questions, now was not the time to delve into this discussion.

“If you’re sure you don’t need me as your bodyguard, I’ll let you get back to work.”

“I’ll be fine. Thanks for earlier though.”

“No problem.” Seth exited her office, making a mental note to talk to Garrett about their future with specific regard to Jessica.
