“I’ll think about it.”

He turns back to his suite. “Do me a favor, Ryan.”

“Yeah?”

“Don’t scare her off.”

Don’t scare her off.

It’s good advice, even if it’s hard to put into action.

This is the best I’ve got.

I hope it’s good enough.

I slide the bag off my shoulder as I knock.

Footsteps move toward the door. “Yeah?”

“It’s me.”

“Ryan?” Leighton pulls the door open. Her blue-green eyes fill with surprise. “What are you—”

“Making you dinner.”

“Okay…”

I step inside. Close the door behind me. Click the lock.

“You know I don’t have food.”

I hold up the blue Trader Joe’s bag.

“You’re insane.”

“I prefer devoted.”

Her lips curl into a half smile.

I move into the kitchen. Set the bag on the counter next to the fridge. Motion come here.

She crosses the room. “I’m sorry I bailed this morning. I needed to think.”

“About?”

“I haven’t figured it out yet.”

“You want to talk about it?”

“No.”

“Me either.” My fingers skim the bottom of her tank top. It’s the same thing she was wearing last night—tight, white, with lacing crisscrossed over her cleavage.

I bring my other hand to the straps. Undo the bow holding them together.

“Ryan.” She looks up at me. “What are you…?”

I loosen the lacing. “Feeling you up.” I back her into the counter.
