Sadness wrapped itself around her. “That’s not—”

“It is, and I’m okay with it for the most part. I have my boyband.” He winked at her. She’d called him, Finn, Linc, and Russell a boyband once and it became a running joke between them. “But every now and then I see you living the life you want to lead. Outgoing, funny, confident, comfortable in your own skin, and it tugs on something inside me that I don’t know how to do.”

She opened her mouth but he held up a hand. “I’m not saying any of this to try to defend my words or actions yesterday. I was a complete douche bag and I am truly sorry. I just wanted to explain where some of my feelings came from.”

He picked up a bottle of red nail polish from the counter. “You’re my sister, I love you, and I know I come off as an overprotective oaf sometimes, but I do trust your judgement.”

A hysterical giggle bubbled up inside her. “You’ve literally never been okay with me being with anyone, William.”

“For the most part. And you’re right, if someone hurt you, even Finn, I’d absolutely get my ass kicked defending your honor.”

She snorted. “You don’t think I have any honor.”

He winced. “I really am sorry.” He raked his hand through his hair. “What an epic asshole.”

She smiled. He wasn’t wrong.

“I think the idea that the two of you would be together, and that it might result in less time for me in either of your lives, hit me pretty hard. I know. Selfish brute, right? Immature douche.” He pinched the bridge of his nose. “I can’t believe I’m admitting this out loud, but it’s true. I don’t want to lose either of you, even to each other.”

His sigh condensed on the mirror and he drew a heart in it with an F+M. “But the more I think about it, the more I realize you two are pretty freakin’ perfect for one another. And the fact I in any way came between you, or stopped you from having something amazing?” He rubbed his chest. “That’s not okay with me.”

She raised her eyebrows.

“I could do with never, ever, seeing his dick in you. Like, never again.”

She held up her hands. “Consider it done.”

“And I know you don’t need my blessing to date him, but you have it. I think you’d have had it back then too, though it might have taken a bit longer for me to come around.”

She stood and ruffled his hair. “You’re all mature and grown up now, Willy.”

“I dunno about that.” He examined the back of his hand. “I clocked my best friend in the face, and lost my shit at two consenting adults having a relationship. None of that screams either mature, or grown up.”

She couldn’t help but laugh. “When you put it like that…”

“I really am sorry for what I said.”

“I know. I forgive you. But only because you brought s’mores.”

Finnegan

Will had convinced them all to head over to the hockey house. Molly and Cleo were inside preparing snacks, and Lincoln was on his way. Finn strummed his guitar, while Will lit the fire pit. Despite riding from the girl’s apartment together, they still hadn’t spoken a single word to each other.

“I’m sorry I hit you.” Will rolled his hand looking at his knuckles. “Though I feel like I did more damage to myself than I did to your face. Guess it serves me right for choosing violence.”

Finn jerked his chin at him. “You didn’t do too badly at all for your first time. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you.”

“I understand why you didn’t.” Will plucked two beers from the small cooler at his feet and opened them before handing one to Finn.

“I’m sorry I fucked your sister in your parent’s garage.”

“Bullshit. You’re sorry you got caught.”

“True story. I really do love her though.”

“I can tell. I dunno how I missed it this whole time. Now it’s been pointed out to me, it’s all I see.” Will nodded before taking a sip of his beer. “If you hurt her though…”

“I know, I know, you’ll kill me.”
