“How much info can you get from your cousin?” Trip asked.

She frowned. “You want me to get info from my chief and report it back to you?”

“How much do you value his dick?” Trip asked, jerking his chin toward Rook.

Jet blinked. So did Rook, wondering where Trip was going with this.

“Figure you like his dick, what about the rest of him?”

“He’s okay,” Jet answered Trip slowly.

Judge barked out another laugh and slammed the table with his big paw.

Trip kept a straight face. “Just okay?”

She shrugged. “Yes. That’s about right.”

Rook shot her a frown, but she kept her eyes pinned on Trip, who asked, “So, you don’t care whether he lives or dies, then?”

She waited a shitload too long before she admitted, “I’d kind of care. He’s kind of good in bed.”

Damn.

“Just kinda?” Trip asked, tipping his head back and looking down his nose at her.

“Yes. I mean, I do have some really good vibrators…”

Trip snorted. Judge dropped his head, and his big body shook.

The Fury president sobered quickly. “Thinkin’ you’d care a whole fuck of a lot. So, if you wanna help Rook, you’ll get whatever info you can and report back.”

“To you?” she asked, not hiding her surprise.

“You can tell stud muffin there. He’ll pass along any info.”

“You’re not mad?” Jet asked.

“Fuckin’ furious,” Trip answered.

“We tried to hate each other,” Jet admitted casually with a shrug.

“How’d that fuckin’ work out?”

“Not well,” she answered Trip honestly.

“Yeah, love’s like that. It gets you when you least expect it. It also makes you fuckin’ stupid.”

Chapter Twenty-Two

Rook opened his mouth to deny that they loved each other but Trip shot him a look daring him to deny it.

He snapped his mouth shut instead and pressed his lips into a thin line. He’d fix that misconception when his ass wasn’t sitting in the hot seat.

Now was not a time to defy his president. Now was the time to smooth things over so he didn’t get his colors stripped. And if he got to keep them, so a blanket party wasn’t thrown especially in his honor instead.

His little brother getting one was difficult to watch. Being on the receiving end would suck even more.

“Now,” Trip began, “need to have a little convo with lover boy here. So, Jet, you’re gonna have to excuse us while we conduct club business. I look forward to hearin’ whatever you find out from your chief.”

“Rook,” Jet whispered, drawing his attention from the two men sitting at the table. She didn’t mask the worry in her eyes.

“Go,” Rook assured her. “Will pick up Cujo when I’m done here.”

“I don’t want to—“

“Go. It’ll be all right.” He didn’t want to do this with her in front of Trip and Judge.

“But—“

“Jet,” he said a little too sharply. He gave her a look that said, “Not now.”

After a slight hesitation, she gave him a small nod and without another look at him or the men at the table, she turned and left the second-floor meeting room.

Once her footsteps became faint, he turned back to the table and waited.

And waited.

He wasn’t liking the silence.

Trip finally dragged his hands down his face, groaned and shook his head. “Can’t believe this shit. You of all fuckin’ people.”

“You and me both, brother. Fought it. Hard as I could.” And that was damn true.

“Not hard enough, apparently. How the fuck did this even start? From you dealin’ with her at the garage?”

He could lie but the truth might prove to them how Jet wasn’t like the rest of the PD. At least, in his eyes, she wasn’t. Whether Trip and Judge would see her that way, he wasn’t sure. “She caught me and Easy on the mountain one night.”

“So, you fucked her to keep her quiet?” Judge asked, his eyebrows pinned to the bottom of the black knit cap covering his hair.

Rook shook his head. “Fucked her to get her outta my system.”

Trip snorted. “Yeah, could’ve asked any of us, that don’t usually work.”

He grimaced and reluctantly admitted, “She also saved my ass.”

Both men sat up straighter and their eyes became more intense.

“Wanna explain that?” Judge asked.

“Not really,” he answered truthfully. “Not somethin’ I really wanna relive.”

“Thinkin’ we now need to hear it,” Trip insisted.

“Fuck,” Rook whispered, then lifted his head high and met their gazes head on. “Got caught up there by some of the Shirley women. Stepped into a trap they’d set up on our trail. Didn’t see it ’til it was too late.” He went on to explain the rest of what happened that night, telling them most of it but not all. “Truthfully, her bein’ nosy about the clan and our involvement with them saved my ass. She got me free. By her-fuckin-self, too. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be breathin’ right now. Worse, some Shirley babies might’ve ended up lookin’ like me.”

“Poor fuckin’ kids,” was the only thing Judge said, which surprised Rook. He expected one or both of them to ream him out for not telling them about that close call sooner.
