Catori waved her hand away. “As long as I can go eat some rolls later, I don’t care if you mess them up.”

Lynn opened his mouth to say something, closed it, and then looked to me.

I looked at Catori but my question was aimed toward my dad. “Who was the tip from?”

“Validated source,” he answered. “No relation whatsoever to anyone that is a known associate of Thor Thames.”

I looked over at Hunt then. “Can you confirm that?”

Hunt held up his phone. “On it.”

Catori was overly excited half an hour later when we got out onto the road, and I realized then that I needed to help her stay happy, otherwise she would go out of her way to not keep herself safe just like she did today when she left the safety of my place without telling anyone.

CHAPTER 13

We’re all just going to be socially awkward as fuck after this, huh?

CATORI

I didn’t know what I expected, but a McMansion definitely wasn’t it.

The drive over had been beautiful. The day was perfect for a ride. Not too hot, and not too cold.

There literally was a one-month period from around mid-September to mid-October that was perfect riding weather, and we were in it.

In fact, I’d already missed a week of it.

So to hear Laric and Lynn agree to take me with them today had made me ecstatic.

Being on the back of Laric’s bike, however?

I hadn’t realized how much I’d missed out when I was on it the day we’d left the hospital.

Today, despite the soreness that plagued me, I had a blast.

That, and I was pressed up against a very hot, very sexy, very manly man that made my heart race, my thighs quiver, and other parts of my anatomy sit up and pay attention.

My face was pressed up against his leather cut, the lines of stitching of the big skull face with the top hat imprinting my cheek. That, and I was fairly sure that my forehead had embroidered letters pressed into it.

Whatever, though.

I was having a blast.

That, and my hands were splayed along Laric’s abs, slowly lining each and every bulge, indentation, and divot.

Every once in a while I’d make eye contact with Swayze or Beckham, both women having the same look of pleasure on their face that I was sure that I had.

The only drawback was the fact that Laric wasn’t wearing a helmet.

Again, I was wearing his, which left him vulnerable.

I was thinking on this, my mind made up to go get the one from my place as soon as I possibly could, when we pulled to the side of the road outside one of the biggest houses that I’d ever seen.

Bigger than Lynn’s place, which was even more surprising.

I pulled my face off of Laric’s back, staring unblinkingly at the huge monstrosity in front of me.

“If you’d like to buy this for me for Christmas.” I nudged Laric once he shut off his bike. “I’d not complain. I could get lost in that house.”

“You could die in that house,” Lynn grumbled as he stared at it. “This is the house of one of the richest people in Texas. Don’t let it fool you. There are so many ghosts in those walls that it’s a wonder they don’t all die from possessions.”

“Who lives here?” I wondered.

Lynn shook his head, unwilling to answer.

“Apparently my mother,” Laric grumbled as he swung his leg off the bike and then offered me his hand. “You okay?”

I nodded, taking in the large pilings that held up the front of the house. “Yeah, I am.”

“Good,” he grumbled. “Let’s get this shit over with.”

Just as he said that, the large iron gates swung open, and an actual fuckin’ butler emerged.

“You rang,” I said in my deepest, most baritone voice I could manage.

Laric slapped me on the ass.

The two women behind me burst into fits of giggles.

“That was pretty manly,” Beckham whispered. “I think that was even deeper than Laric’s voice.”

I gave her a scrunched-up smile. “I prank my brother a lot. I had to learn how to talk like that so I could scare the shit out of him in the middle of the night.”

Beckham snickered. “I still do that to Louis, too. Louis is a lot jumpier now than he used to be, though. It’s hard for me to do it without getting punched in the face.”

I snapped at her. “I have an idea for you.”

“Ladies,” Lynn said, disrupting our chatter. “Follow us. And don’t get lost. Stay together, don’t touch anything breakable, and swear to God, please, keep your mouths under control.”

“I feel like I’m getting reprimanded by my father,” I whispered into Laric’s ear.

“Welcome to my world,” he paused. “At least you know he’s not yours.”

True enough.

“I’m not promising anything, by the way,” I continued to whisper as he tugged me in his wake, his hand on mine a little tighter than it was all the other times he’d held it.
