Then comes the test itself. Ripping open the cardboard, I seize the indicator before peeing on the stick, and then start pacing. The next two minutes are literally the longest in my life. OMG, what is it going to say?

Finally, my phone beeps and with trembling fingers, I reach for the stick. Clear as day, the word “pregnant” flashes at me. My mouth opens into a round “O,” my eyes going wide with shock.

OMG, I’m going to have Dylan and Frank’s baby!

I pull out my phone to call my boyfriends, but then stop myself. I can’t just rush into this like a crazed woman, although I’m sure they wouldn’t blame me if I came running in with my hair on fire. Instead, I’m going to sit on the news for a little while I plan my approach. I want to deliver the message in a way that’s both surprising and intimate. After all, Dylan and Frank will be excited to be fathers, won’t they? I certainly hope so because otherwise, my heart will break.

A day later.

It’s been a tough week at work, but it doesn’t matter because Frank and I are taking April out tonight, and it’s going to be an enjoyable time. She doesn’t know about our plans because we want it to be a surprise, so we pull up in front of her complex and then let ourselves into the building using the key she gave us.

As we ascend the stairs, Frank turns to me.

“April’s going to be home, right?” he asks.

I nod.

“Yeah, I hope so. If not, we’ll just wait here until she gets back.”

He nods and then we knock on her door as I look around. It’s a shabby landing with a scuffed, dirty-looking floor and paint peeling from the door frame. Well, we’ll move her out of this place soon. At that moment, our girlfriend throws open the door only to do a double-take before smiling.

“Hey, what are you guys doing here?” she asks. “Did I forget something? I wasn’t expecting you!”

I shake my head.

“We have a surprise for you,” I growl. “Can we come in?”

April smiles and steps aside so we can enter her small apartment. She keeps the place clean and tidy, which is her habit. Then again, April’s hardly ever here anymore. She stays with us most nights, letting us enjoy her body into the wee hours of the morn. I think the curvy girl only comes back when she needs to grab additional clothes at this point.

“What’s the surprise?” she asks with a wide smile. “Actually, I have a surprise for you too.”

“Oh really?” Frank drawls, his eyes glinting. “What is it?”

“Wouldn’t you like to know?” she giggles. “But your surprise first.”

“Okay,” my friend grins. “Our surprise is that we’re taking you out. We’re going into the city, so wear something nice.”

“I always look nice,” she retorts with a sassy grin.

My blue eyes flare.

“That you do, sweetheart, and in fact, we love you nude and lush the most. But we can’t go around parading those curves for everyone to see, so into the bedroom for a cocktail dress.”

She pouts.

“You’re not going to give me any details? That’s it?”

I nod.

“Yep, that’s it. Come on, sweetheart, hurry up because we’ve got to get going.”

She pouts again while waggling her bottom at us.

“Okay, okay! But you know I don’t like surprises.”

“You’ll like this one,” I promise.

Sure enough, she emerges a few minutes later wearing a sexy black dress. The v-neck shows off the creamy tops of her breasts, and I wet my lips. Shit, has her chest gotten bigger over the last month? Our girl has Double D’s, but I could swear they’re Double F’s now.

“Is this okay?” April giggles, gesturing to her outfit.

“It’s perfect, sweetheart,” Frank growls before slinging an arm about her waist. “Let’s get going.”

With that, we usher her out to my luxury sedan. Frank takes the back seat so April can sit up front with me, and possessively, I place a big hand on her knee, sliding up to squeeze her thigh.

“Goodness!” she giggles. “We haven’t even left Monroe yet!”

“I know, sweet girl,” I rasp. “But you’re so tasty that I can’t help touching you.”

With that, I pull the car from the curb and begin the drive into Manhattan. Twilight has come, and the sky is blue-grey and magical. Light jazz plays on the radio, and the atmosphere in the vehicle is relaxed although also buzzing with anticipation.

“How are things going with your business plan?” I ask idly. After all, Frank and I have been working on the document with April. Our woman says that she wants everything to be perfect, and I admire her for that, but of course, this is the land of start-ups. Nothing can be planned altogether.

She smiles shyly.

“It’s going okay. I keep getting stuck on the product part, because I have so many ideas about how to make my flavors stand out. I want it to be a place where people can get the classics, of course, but also where they also get a chance to experiment with bold new flavors and mixes. Kind of like Cold Stone, but better of course.”
