“I’m not going anywhere,” Kerr dismissed her, his voice stern and looked at her mother. “You can count on my help. Whatever you need.”
“Thank you,” Rachel murmured, “and welcome to Terre.”
Lily’s family melted away and seconds later the two of them were left alone. Kerr’s lips descended until only a whisper was between them. “I will return to my people when this is finished and I will take you with me.” He swept his mouth across hers before he murmured, “But right now there’s no place I want to be other than here with you.”
Lily opened her mouth and surrendered her soul to the man who held her. When the kiss was over and when she rested her head against his strong chest and listened to the steady beat of his heart, she thought of her sister Jaden and of the coming war.
And she prayed.
Be well. Be strong.
And survive.
