I nod, frowning.

“Are you okay? I mean, the hours you’ve been working are kind of crazy, right?”

Diana nods ruefully.

“Yeah, to the point where I’m seriously considering not applying for law school because who needs this? There’s no work-life balance at all.”

I give her a comforting pat on the back.

“Well, I hope it ends soon.”

My friend nods.

“I hope so too. If you’re not too busy with your boyfriends this weekend, let’s grab breakfast sometime, okay?”

I smile.

“Sure, but won’t you still be at the law firm?”

Diana pretends to slit her throat with her finger.

“Hopefully not, but we’ll see. Anyways, I have to run. Best of luck to Talon and Torment!”

With that, Diana hugs me before heading to her job and the apartment is silent after the front door closes. I stand in front of the mirror, surveying my reflection. I look sexy, beautiful, and my friend is right: I glow. Then, my hands find my tummy again and I can’t help but smile. I don’t care if this pregnancy happened out of the blue because it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me, and I can’t wait to reveal the news to the baby’s fathers.

But now, it’s time to get to Madison Square Garden, and I grab my purse before leaving the apartment. The train ride into the city takes less than an hour and the ride actually terminates at Penn Station, which is right next to MSG. As soon as I exit from underground, I gasp because there’s a huge poster draped from the rafters of the building with Talon and Torment’s mugs on it, and the twins are so handsome. Oh wow. Who knew they could look so fierce and yet desirable at once?

But when I near MSG, it feels as if I’ve entered an enchanted bubble because the event planners have gone all out to create an ambience of luxury and excitement. There’s an actual red carpet at the entrance to the venue, and large backdrops with different sponsor logos line the pathway. Sure enough, there are a bunch of paparazzi snapping photos of various celebrities going through the velvet rope. My manager at CelebLife wanted me to work this job, but I said no and made up an excuse. Good thing she accepted without much comment because I would have had to lie about my reasons.

But where are Talon and Torment? They must be planning to do the red carpet walk because they’re the stars of the show. I make my way into the bleachers and then survey the crowd, squinting until I spot the twin fighters waiting behind a black screen. Mmm, they look gorgeous in their satin tuxes although I know that’s all going to come off the moment they step into the locker room.

Of course, when the twins show themselves from behind the screen, there’s a roar from the crowd and Talon and Torment raise their fists to acknowledge the support. Quite a few female fans are actually screaming their names, and I see one woman reach under her dress to take off her panties, likely to pitch it at my boyfriends. But before she can even wind up to throw, the sound of sirens pierce the air. What? Is there an emergency close by? Of course, this is NYC so there are lots of first responder vehicles buzzing around the city at all times, but these sirens are terrifyingly close and utterly ear-splitting.

Suddenly, five different cop cars come to a screeching halt right in front of the red carpet, barreling onto the sidewalk in the process. Then, police officers charge out of their vehicles and practically assault Talon and Torment. OMG, what’s going on? I stare with wide eyes before pushing my way down the bleachers and leaning over the railing.

“Talon, Torment!” I cry while waving an arm. “Over here!”

The twins turn to look my way, and their blue eyes are puzzled, just like everybody else’s. But then two officers grab my lovers and wrestle their arms behind their backs.

“Talon Creighton and Torment Creighton, you’re under arrest,” a female cop barks. “You have the right to remain silent.”

The rest of the Miranda warning comes out as the entire crowd stares in shock. What’s going on?

“There must be some mistake,” Talon begins.

“We’re not criminals,” Torment growls with an angry look. “What the fuck? Can’t you see we have a match to get to? Don’t you see our images on the banner?”

“Sure, we see your faces,” the lady cop drawls. “But it doesn’t matter in the eyes of the law. You’re coming with us to the station.”

With that, the twins are hustled off to a police cruiser, but not before Talon twists around to make eye contact with me.

“Don’t worry, sweetheart, this is a misunderstanding,” he calls as they wrestle him into the waiting car. “Just stay put. We’ll figure it out.”
