“Terrible,” I cry.

“What happened?” she says, more alert.

“I think I’m in trouble, Erin.”

“Did you sleep with him?” she asks.

“No!”

“Then, you’re good. Tell me everything,” she says.

“We had a good night. I thought he’d be pissed that I dragged him to the event, but he was charming, and he was sweet to the people there. He took a bazillion photos, gave an impromptu concert, and donated an insane amount of money.”

“The asshole,” she quips.

“That’s the point. He wasn’t an asshole. I needed him to be an asshole. I don’t know if I can do this again.”

“If you don’t want to, you don’t have to,” she reminds me.

“I already agreed to another date tomorrow,” I confess.

She laughs.

“It’s not funny.”

“Girl, I’m on the phone with you in the middle of the night, complaining because Garrett Tuttle wants to take you out again. It’s fucking hysterical.”

Ugh, she’s no help. I should have called Taeli.

“Look, sleep on it tonight, and if you still think it’s a bad idea in the morning, just call him and cancel,” she suggests.

At that moment, I get a notification for an incoming text.

“Hold on a sec,” I tell Erin.

I click on the message.

I hope you have sweet dreams, Foxy. I know I will after that kiss. Xoxo, G.

How did he get my number?

I don’t reply. I just click back over to Erin.

“I have to go. Thanks for listening,” I say.

“Anytime. And, Ansley?”

“Yes?”

“Sweet dreams,” she says before the line goes dead.

Oh, I expect they will be.
