“What about you? Can I be there for you?”

“You already are.”

“Are you still in shock?”

“No, baby. I’ll think about what happened, and I’ll mourn the Freya I thought I knew, but I’m so used to violence their deaths aren’t affecting me the way it will you.”

“Will I get used to violence?”

“No, because I’m going to keep you as far away from it as possible.”

She pressed a kiss to his chest. “Just don’t ever get caught, hurt, or killed because I can’t live without you.” She tried to put aside the fact that the man she loved could kill someone without a thought. She’d seen it herself, but it didn’t change the way she felt for him.

“I won’t. I’ve got great men around me like my father, brothers, and cousins, and I know what I’m doing.”

“That guy the night we met. Did he have to die?”

“Yeah, sweetheart. Not only did he go against what I believe in, which is not kidnapping women, but he also scared you, and I couldn’t let that pass. I’m sorry you had to see it.”

“In a way, I’m glad he’s off the planet because he didn’t care about hurting or scaring me. Does that make me bad?”

“Never. You’re right. There are a lot of people in the world who shouldn’t get to live. Those are the men I take out. I’ve never once killed an innocent person, and I never will. I don’t kill for the killing. I kill to make a point or to get rid of the garbage.”

“I think I understand.”

“Do you think you can go to sleep?”

“I am very tired.”

“We’ll talk more in the morning.”

“Okay.” She kissed him one more time, closed her eyes, and fell asleep.

A few hours later, she woke up crying, and he was there to hold and comfort her.

When it was morning, she felt better for getting some of the grief and pain out of her. She knew it would happen a few more times at least, but she had great support, and she’d get through it and come out stronger.

The End
