I whimpered, and he leaned over to his nightstand, pulling open the drawer to retrieve a condom. My mouth went dry as he rolled it on. I couldn’t wait any longer. I spread my legs open, rubbing myself as he watched me with hot eyes. “Are you going to sit there while I get myself off? Or are you going to stop screwing around and do it yourself?”

He growled and covered my body with his, pressing me into the mattress. The weight of him made me feel safe, protected. I threw my arms around his shoulders to pull him closer. Our kisses became harder and hungrier as our breathing intensified.

Our physical and emotional connections tangled together, pushing both of us higher. I could feel his energy radiating through me and my skin hummed in response. Our powers began to burn brighter, but I kept my magic under wraps, not wanting to lose this moment when it was just us. His cock nudged my entrance. I dug my nails into his back, thrusting my hips against him. He slid into me inch by delicious inch. Once he was seated to the hilt, he paused, allowing me the time to get accustomed to his size.

I felt full. Anchored. Like he had been made to fit me and only me. Slowly, he pulled back, and my thighs gripped his waist, begging for the friction that would send me over the edge. With his arms on either side of me, he tilted my face with his thumbs and kissed me. His lips were soft and gentle as he slid into me again. His strokes fluid and unhurried. My rain cloud hovered over me, puffy and weightless, as the feeling of floating touched my toes and fingertips. I’d heard the term “making love” my whole life, but never really experienced it until now.

“You feel so good.” He kissed me again. “Those little whimpers you make drive me out of my mind. I love the way you look at me when I’m inside you. Like you know there is no one else who makes you feel the way I do.”

“Only you.” I gasped. “Only ever you.”

I pushed my hips harder against him, building the friction for both of us. He groaned and picked up his pace. Long deep strokes fanned the fire within me, spreading it outward.

He reached between us, looking down as he rubbed his thumb over my clit. “I could watch my cock slide into your pussy all night, but I need you to come for me. You feel too good and I’m barely holding on.”

“Faster.” My voice had gone breathy as tiny tremors began to move through me. “Almost there.” My toes curled and my nerves gathered down to a singular point. “Oh, God.”

I screamed his name loud enough to compete with the waves crashing against the rocks outside his window. My inner walls clenched, pulsing against him as he drove his cock deeper into me, finding his own release. My arms shook as I held him tight against me, letting go of the last few spasms of the most mind-blowing orgasm of my life.

Would it always be like this with him? Would he drive me to higher and higher peaks every time? Was this because our energy attracted so strongly, or had it always been like this between us, dormant and waiting for us to get our collective shit together? He collapsed on top of me, our skin sweat-slicked and our limbs spent. I nudged his shoulder when I fully came back down and taking air into my lungs became a necessity.

Rolling over, he gathered me against his chest and ran his fingers through my hair and up and down my spine. “Stay the night with me.”

“I can’t.” As much as the idea appealed to me, especially when he was so warm and solid and his bed was so cozy, there were a million reasons why I shouldn’t. I leaned up on my elbow and traced little circles on his chest. “I have to open the shop in the morning, and as much as I generally don’t care about gossip, I’m not up for fielding a bunch of questions about the two of us when I’m trying to run a business during my busiest season.”

“I get that.” He raised my hand to his lips and kissed each of my individual fingers. “Stay anyway. I’ll set an alarm for four in the morning and walk you home in the dark.”

It was tempting. So tempting. My eyes already felt heavy, and though it wouldn’t take a ton of time to walk home through the back way, the prospect of moving at all made my sore muscles ache. “You’ll set an alarm?”

He reached for his phone on his nightstand and thumbed through it. “Already done. I’ll wake us up at four, and we’ll take the trail through the woods to your condo. No one will see me, and you can keep me your dirty little secret for one night longer.”

He was joking, but it didn’t stop me from frowning. Maybe it was too early to have this conversation, but at some point, we’d need to discuss how we planned to address the subject of us with the busybodies in town. If we even were an us. Maybe we were just on a test run.

God knows, we had enough baggage to start us off on shaky ground, and I wasn’t exactly known for running headlong into trusting people. Magnify that hesitancy by a thousand when I’d been hurt. The fact that I’d let Wes back in enough to clear up what had gone wrong had been a small miracle. Which said a lot about my feelings for him, something I didn’t want to examine too closely this early.

Wes pulled me down against him, his fingers idly stroking my back. “It’s cute how you still assume I can’t hear you thinking. We can talk about whatever is running through your mind tomorrow. For now, let’s close our eyes at the same time and fall asleep next to each other.”

“Smartass.” I poked him in the chest, then lifted my head. “How did you know I had stuff running through my mind?”

“Because I know you, remember?” He leaned up and kissed my forehead.

Smiling, I settled back against him and let sleep pull me under.
