Meeks obviously wasn’t getting the clue.

King nodded to Rigid. “Let’s go tell the girls they get to extend their vacation here, but it’s not for a good reason.”

King and Rigid walked out of the office with Apollo following behind.

Hero leaned back in his chair and kicked his feet out. “Quite the digs you have here,” he chuckled.

“You’re set up pretty good at the clubhouse, too.”

Hero shrugged. “Building and location wise? Yeah. I’m doing good.”

“But?” I asked.

“But you’re stepping up a hell of a lot more than I am.” He frowned. “I thought for a second that I was going to get King’s chair, but with this serial killer bullshit going on, I don’t see that happening anytime soon.”

“Give it time, Hero. You’re still young. When I was your age, I was Leo’s driver for six months because he told me I needed to learn everyone’s job. Even the ones that I would never have to do when I took over.”

Hero chuckled. “He made you prospect.”

I nodded. “Yup. That was exactly what he did. Got the idea from you guys.” I shook my head. “I have to tell you, I did not like it at all at the time, but it did help me. It’s good to learn how every wheel, screw, and bolt holds everything together as a whole.”

Hero nodded. “I guess I can understand that.”

I stood and buttoned my jacket. “Have faith, Hero. It will happen, but you just might have to wait a little bit longer.”

We walked out of my office and toward the kitchen.

“You have to work as the chef?” Hero lau

ghed.

I nodded. “Though that didn’t last for very long. Uncle Leo found out quickly that cooking was not something I was gifted in.”

A wave of cries and gasps came from the media room.

“Sounds like King and Rigid told the girls about Savana.” Hero shook his head. “This shit needs to end, Marco, but we can’t figure out why it’s happening.”

I clapped him on the shoulder. “Sometimes things don’t get fixed as soon as you’d like them to. I’m chasing my fucking tail with Meeks right now when all I want to do it find him and blow his head off.”

“Well, if anyone can find him, it’s the Banachis.”

I appreciated his vote of confidence, but even I was beginning to doubt that it was going to happen.

Murphy briskly walked down the hallway with his finger pressed to his ear. “Secure the gates,” he barked.

Princeton came running down the stairs with his gun drawn. “A car is tearing down the driveway headed for the house.”

King and the club rushed from the media room. “What’s going on?” King called.

“A car has breached the property and is headed this way.” Apollo grabbed my arm. “We have to get you to the safe room, sir.”

I yanked my arm from his. “I’m not fucking running.” Especially not without Royal and everyone else. Royal and Dr. Hamm came running from the kitchen with Bristol and some of the other staff members following them. “Marco,” she called.

I held out my hand to her, but a loud crash sounded outside.

Everyone who had a gun drew it and looked at the door.

“Hero,” Rigid called. “Get your mom and all of the women in the media room. Lock the door and don’t let anyone in,” he barked.
