“But I found the a-a-ad for the place onl-l-line.”

“Sometimes it’s better not to know exactly how certain things happen,” he laughed. “Just know that if the club or my family, in general, wants to do something, they will do it.”

I thought back to the day I had been frantically looking for a place to live. I had searched every ad I could find within a two-hundred-mile radius. I had been ready to give up when a new ad popped up with the picture of this house.

“But how did they know that I would see t-t-this place?”

Zag held up his hands. “Again, babe. Sometimes it’s just best to not know all the details.”

But why? Why did the club go to such lengths to make sure I moved here?

“Why?”

“To make sure you were safe. I’m not sure who or which one, but there has been someone from the club keeping an eye on you since you moved in.”

I hadn’t seen or felt one time that someone was watching me. “None of this m-m-makes sense to me.” First, Malcom had kidnapped me, and now I was somehow brought to Falls City without even knowing it.

“Just know you’re safe now, and even when you didn’t know the club was there, you were still safe.”

“Why would your c-c-club care if I was s-s-safe?” I had zero connection to his club. I hadn’t even known what the club was or who he was before Zag had been tossed into the basement with me.

Zag just stared at me.
