Dante takes a deep breath in and exhales.

I stare at him as my mind blanks for a shocked second.

“That … that was Anna’s blood?”

“Yes.”

Is that why I woke up knowing her name?

Are her memories, her past, now part of my own DNA? Is that why I seem to have thoughts and emotions that seem like utter contradictions to my situation?

“What does that mean for me?”

Removing the metal bar, Dante throws open the doors and Seven stumbles in, dropping to the floor, followed by a huge plume of black smoke.

“Fire,” Seven coughs. “The house … it’s on fire.”
