Chapter8

Working at the admissions office at the university was the most boring of all my jobs, and my least favorite. As an introvert, I thought I'd love it, but even though I dealt with fewer people, the ones I had to interact with were a lot more intense than a drunk who wanted another beer or a student who wanted their morning caffeine fix.

Helping a premed student who needed their schedule to be correct or else their entire life plan was invalid was a lot of pressure. Because we were midway through the semester, it was the slow time of the year, which gave me ample time for studying and internet searches.

Mainly searches about how to say no to a date. There were helpful tips like being firm, which obviously hadn't worked. Another suggestion was calling the cops, which wouldn't be feasible when dealing with a guy like Alek.

I hadn't spent any of the money he sent me. I didn't owe him anything. So, when he came to the apartment, he was going to find me in my most unflattering pajamas. Then he'd realize that there was nothing he could do.

He hadn't seemed violent, just psycho.

All I had to do was make it through the night, and Alek Rishka would be out of my life.
