Chapter9

There was no way I was going to make it through the evening with my sanity intact. I'd already finished once in my office that morning and my cock had still been hard all day as I'd fantasized about seeing my angel in the flesh.

If I wanted to have the night free of work interruptions, I knew I would have to stay focused, but that's impossible to do when every time I closed my eyes, I saw those perfect breasts and her hand pressed between her thighs.

She wasn't thinking of some nameless man. She was thinking of me. It was my voice stirring up her passions.

And that evening, it would be a lot more than my voice.

Last night hadn't gone to plan. I expected to offer her the world and sweep her off her feet, but she had been jumpier than I thought. More jaded.

That was okay. It was good that she was cautious. Safer. I would relish proving myself to her. And I'd relish the chase.

I'd never fooled myself into thinking I was a knight in shining armor. No knight would have whispered those deviant nothings into her ear this morning. Though no angel would've moaned so pretty in response.

I groaned just thinking about it.

Soon.

First things first. I buzzed in Mary. The click-clack of her heels announced her impending arrival long before she opened the door.

Mary had many attributes that made her a great personal assistant. She was a former mistress of the now deceased head of the Italians. We met the night I made him deceased.

So, I'd been stuck with a drop-dead gorgeous woman who had nowhere to go. She hadn't been with the Italians of her own free will, and her own family were the ones who had sold her.

So, I offered her a job. You'd be surprised how many guys would flap their gobs in front of a pretty girl. Plus, she knew more about the underworld than any of the big players around.

I called her my personal assistant, but she was probably just as important to my operation as Sergei. And she was paid just as well. She just got to wear nicer clothes.

Today she wore a hot pink dress that fit like a second skin. Looked damn uncomfortable to me, but I didn't give a damn what she wore, as long as it made her happy. Her long blonde hair was in loose curls that hung down to her mid back. It was as though she was wearing a blonde bimbo costume.

"You rang?" she asked as she held up a pen decorated with rhinestones and a pink pad of paper.

"I have a date tonight and I told her I would pick her up a dress. Will you take care of it?"

She raised a perfectly sculpted brow. "Just a dress?"

"And whatever else she might need." I frowned. If I brought Daisy to my house, she might need more things. "Get her some more clothes too. Have a wardrobe shipped to the beach house, but the dress and everything that goes with it is for tonight. Give it to Sergei and he'll take care of it. Sizes are going to be sent to you." She nodded as she wrote down everything I told her. There was no reason she needed to write this down. That’s when I realized she was stalling. "And pick yourself up a few things too."

She smirked and gave me a wink. "You're the best boss. Also, Borya is on the way up."

Any smile that was on my face faded away. I let Mary go as I waited for my brother to reach my office.

I hadn't seen Borya in six months, so for him to show up with no warning was... concerning. Fuck. Why did he have to do it today?

I leaned back in my chair and mentally ran through who all the players were. The Italians, Mexicans, Spanish, Yakuza. There had been an Aryan uprising a few months back, but I'd stomped that out before it had become anything to worry about.

Borya had been off in the motherland for months, leaving me high and dry. He was reconnecting with his roots, he’d said. Fancy way of saying he was off screwing Russian hookers and drinking his weight in vodka while I was keeping our empire in line.

Borya had always been a loose cannon. If he walked in here and I chewed his ass out, he would only turn into unstable napalm.

Fuck. It was my first time seeing Borya after six months of radio silence. If we made it out of this without some sort of explosion, it would be a miracle. I'd need more than my angel to pull off something like that.

Borya walked in, looking just as I remembered. I always thought he resembled a half-drunk bum who had gone off the rails. The only difference I could see was a fuller beard and maybe twenty pounds of muscle.

He strode in like nothing had changed and sat across from me, unbuttoning his charcoal grey jacket and setting his hands over his lap. "Hello, brother."

"Welcome back. I wish I had known you were coming. I would have organized a welcoming committee."

Borya smirked. "A piece of lead and date with some fish?"

"Fuck, Borya. Why would I kill you?" I was pissed at him, but I wasn't going to fucking shoot him. "Where have you been?"

"I've been rolling in the mud, so you don't have to. You’re welcome. There's a hurricane coming our way, brother. We have to prepare."

"What kind of hurricane?"

"We can't talk now. I just got back today. I have to reach out to some contacts."

Motherfucker walks in here like nothing's changed, gives some cryptic warning and then wants to leave?"We don't have secrets. If you know something, you tell me."

His mouth tightened and for a moment I thought he was going to tell me what was worrying him. But then he shook his head. "Not everything is set in stone yet."

"You don't trust me?"

"Don't be a sentimental pussy. There's a bloodbath coming, and I am the only thing standing between your ass and destruction."

I nodded. If that was how Borya was going to play this, I'd see how far he'd take it. "Get a burner phone from Mary on your way out. She'll give me the contact number."

"I know how to get in touch."

"Good for you. If that's all, get the fuck out of my office, Borya. Come back when you want to have a real discussion."

Instead of standing, Borya took out a cigarette and lit it, taking a long drag and letting out the smoke. "I did want to come back," he said finally.

"Change your mind?"

He stood up as he took another drag. "More like careful what you wish for. You just might get it, brother."
