Chapter22

I woke to an empty bed. Not the ideal morning after but I still basked in the comfort, warmth, and most of all, the overwhelming scent of Alek.

It was shameful how quickly I was addicted to him. Though considering he had taken one look at me and decided I was his, at least I knew this wasn't all one-sided.

Last night he said he loved me. He said it during sex, though. Men said all sorts of things they didn't mean to get between a women's legs. Not that he needed any help in that regard. And when had Alek ever said anything he didn't mean?

What a mess. I pushed myself up and glanced around. The dark room was begging for a woman's touch. Would Alek let me do some decorating of my own? I had a feeling that Alek would let me do almost anything as long as it didn't affect my safety.

And he was going to let me bring Becks here! What would the two of us be able to do with all this space? How much trouble would we get into?

That’s assuming she would accept the help. I had fought this pretty hard, and I was getting Alek kisses and orgasms. Becks was going to be a much harder fight.

But if we could get over that, we could finally have a safe place. No money worries. Comfort. Stability.

Becks spent so much time worrying about her little sister being taken care of. We could make sure Layla had a roof over her head and money for food.

There was a familiar ding next to me, which is when I noticed a phone on the nightstand. Had Alek left his phone?

What a ridiculous thought. I doubt Alek had ever forgotten his phone anywhere. If there was a phone here, he must've left it for me.

I picked it up off the nightstand and turned it on to see a message from him.

Morning, Angel.

I shook my head even as a smile covered my face.

You can't keep calling me an angel after doing such dirty things to me.

That is what makes it fun.

I giggled. Legit giggled. What was this guy doing to me?

I didn't want to leave this morning, but important things are happening. Believe me when I say not much is more important than you.

He was probably just blowing smoke up my butt, but the compliment had the intended effect.

You don't have to flatter me.

I am going to spend the rest of my life spoiling you rotten. Might as well get used to it.

His entire life? I wasn't just some fling or mistress? When he'd been inside me, he'd said this was forever and like I'd thought, he didn't say things he didn't mean.

The phone only had two contacts saved into it. Alek and Sergei. Apparently those were the only two that Alek wanted me reaching out to if I needed anything.

Am I trapped in the room today?

You can leave the room, but you do have guards.

For my safety?

For my sanity.

Good save.

That was all I needed to know. It was stupid to be so excited about still being trapped in the house, but I was just so happy to not be bored out of my mind in the room all day. I started to search for some more of Alek's clothes I could wear when I saw the pile of bags piled by the door, all from women's clothing stores.

Apparently, there had been a big delivery of clothes for me. Lots of things I'd never wear. Short skirts, bandage dresses, sparkly blouses.

But there were some jeans of various cuts, a lot of different shoes, and (score!) loungewear. I found some black and purple tie dye yoga pants with a price tag that was more than I made in a week at all three of my jobs. I also located a sweater with a torn neck that hung artfully off my shoulder.

Rich people were weird.

Once I dressed and freshened up in the bathroom, I tried the door, half expecting it to be locked, or for the guard posted outside to usher me back inside.

He stared ahead at the wall as though I didn't exist.

"Hello," I said hesitantly.

It was a younger looking man compared to Sergei and Alek. Maybe twenty-two or twenty-three. But massive. He was probably well over two hundred pounds, mostly muscle, and from the way his suit jacket bulked out along the sides, he looked to have more than one handgun.

"I'm Daisy," I offered.

His eyes bounced to me, and he offered a small nod, but still no verbal greeting.

Okay. So we weren't going to be friends anytime soon. Was he just not particularly friendly or had Alek ordered all of his men away from me? I wanted to know more, but I was too excited to explore. Keeping the phone on hand, I started towards the direction of the front door.

Knowing an exit strategy was probably good.

The first time I'd come here, Alek had practically sprinted to the bedroom. The second time had been under... extenuating circumstances. Needless to say, a refresher was in order.

Down the hall and massive staircase and through the ornate entryway was the front door. Easy enough to find, though it wasn't a short walk.

From there I started to wander around all the rooms. There were a few sections and doorways that were locked, and my little shadow stayed close by.

Alek's home was a virtual playground. There was a media room, dining room fit for a ball, and even a library that I could totally geek out over. Boredom would no longer be a concern.

After I finished my explorations, I went to the kitchen and dug around for something to eat. There wasn't a lot of food in the fridge. Alek didn't strike me as the sort to cook a lot for himself.

But there was enough to make a few basic sandwiches and a fruit bowl. Without asking my shadow, I made a lunch plate for both of us. I was certain that if I asked, he would say no.

Once I was finished, I left the plate for him and sat at a table that looked out at an enclosed lanai with an oversized pool and floor to ceiling windows that overlooked the palm trees and lake the mansion stood against.

I couldn't imagine a more beautiful place to live. I'd enjoyed the view from Alek's bedroom yesterday, but my emotions had overshadowed it. Today I could bask a bit more.

But it was time to face reality, and that meant getting ahold of Becks. I had no idea what Alek had done with my phone, but I knew her number by heart.

I should call her. Face her head on and give her some straight up answers.

What was the harm? I didn't know where we even were. It wasn't like I could give her any identifying information to find us, and even if I could, Alek said he would bring her here anyway.

Sucking it up, I entered in her number and brought the phone up to my ear.

My foot tapped frantically against the marble floor as the ringing started. Maybe she wouldn't answer. She wouldn't know this number. Maybe she'd let it go to voicemail and wimp out that way.

She would at least know I was safe. Best of both worlds?

But then there was a click. "Who is it?"

Yep. That was about how Becks would answer the phone. "Umm, hey. It's Daisy."

There was a small pause. Then she exploded. "Daisy? What the fuck? Where are you? Are you okay? Why haven't you called me? I've been looking everywhere for you!"

Oh goodness. "Hey. I'm fine. I'm fine." Maybe if I repeated it enough, she would believe me. "I have a lot I need to tell you, but I don't really want to do it over the phone."

"Okay. Where are you? I'll get an Uber to come pick you up."
