“What happened the other night? I acted wrong, and I just want to go home.”

“You are home, and you’re not going anywhere. As for the other night…”

“You don’t seem to understand that my father is dead, so I won’t have to stay married to someone I don’t want to. I know my mama would never want me to be miserable.” She ignored him and walked away.

“Do you feel anything for me?” he asked.

She jerked to a stop, turned, and looked at him. “Yes.” Her voice broke, and she took a moment to clear her throat. “Yes, I do, very much, but some things aren’t meant to be. I’m just trying to hold myself together until I get home.”

Blake leaned against the door and crossed his arms over his chest. “First off, I want to talk about the other night.”

“I don’t.”

“You’re coming very close to having your ass beat, pet.”

She pressed her lips together. She’d get through the talk and then be able to leave.

“What we did the other night was normal.”

She snorted. “I’ve never heard of a husband … doing that to his wife.”

“I guarantee if you ask your sister and Beth, they’ll tell you they do it regularly, and they both love it.”

Could that be true? It was very possible, but she’d have to ask Faith before she believed it fully.

“All right.”

“Good. As for the woman, she’s a family friend.”

She shrugged. “If that’s what you want to call it.”

He growled. “You are pushing me.”

She set the things down and turned to him. “I’m not trying to. You couldn’t have been more obvious that you wanted me gone. This is the third day you’ve wanted me stuck in this room, and then I never get to see you.” She pressed her face into her hands. “Please, Blake, just let me go.”

Blake reached behind him and locked the door.

Her pulse spiked with anxiety. “What are you doing?” she asked.

He pulled off his suit jacket and then shirt.

“Blake, answer me.”

“I’m going to make love to my wife.”

Hope shook her head and took a step back. “Please don’t do this to me.” She couldn’t take any more. She needed to get out of there before she broke down.
