Her eyes got misty. “You’re so nice,” she said with a slur. “I think I’m going to keep you.”

When she went for her glass again, he chuckled and rolled his eyes. He was thinking about keeping her, too, but at the moment, he just needed to get her away from the drink. He raised his hand to the waiter.

“Yes, sir?” the waiter asked.

“I’m going to take her home.” He handed him a hundred-dollar bill. “Make sure my bill is paid, and the rest is yours.”

“Oh, wow. Thank you, sir.”

Gavin stood, grabbed her glass from her hands, and handed it to the waiter. “Please get that out of here.”

The waiter grinned. “Yes, sir.”

“Wait!” Alexa cried out.

He lifted her to her feet. “Let’s get you out of here.”

“But I didn’t finish my drink.”

“Yes, you did.” He cursed. “Oh, for God’s sake.” She tripped over her own feet, so he tightened his grip on her and practically carried her out to his car.

He had her belted in and drove away before noticing she was asleep. At a stop sign, he stopped and stared at her. Fuck, he hadn’t gotten her address from her. How in the hell was he going to get her home?

He pulled over to the side, grabbed his phone, and made a call.

“Beaner’s Bar.”

“I need to talk to Jerry.”

“Hold on.”

Within a minute, Jerry answered. “This is Jerry.”

“It’s Gavin Barcina. I need her address.”

“Why?”

“Because she drank too much and is passed out in my front seat.”

“She doesn’t drink,” Jerry said.

Gavin rolled his eyes. “I know that now. Give me the address.”

“I can’t be home for a few more hours. Bring her here, and I’ll put her in the office to rest until I can take her home.”

“No. What’s the problem?” Gavin asked.

“I just don’t want her by herself in that condition. If you bring her here, I can watch over her.”

“You really thought I’d drop her off and leave?”

A moment of silence told him the bar owner had thought he would dump her, which pissed him off. Finally, he got the address.

“You have to drive around in the back. She lives above my garage.”

“Why doesn’t she live in the house with you?” Gavin asked.

“Well … my new wife doesn’t like her very much. The little place isn’t much, and I plan to work on it, but I can keep my eye on her better than if she lived in an apartment.”
