“I’m sick of being a single daddy,” he said, nuzzling her neck. “At least once a week, some high school student calls me a single daddy, just to get a rise out of the nuns.”

“Is that the only reason you want to get married?” she asked, laughing.

“No. I want to be your husband and for you to be my wife. In case you don’t get it, I’m proposing.” He barked out a laugh.

“You should have done it while everyone was here, Adam.”

“No, because then I wouldn’t be able to do this.”

He swooped her up in his arms with her protesting and carried her back to their bedroom.

“You got it, babe,” Adam replied, trying to get them through the door, accidentally knocking Katy’s head against the doorjamb. “Ouch, sorry.”

“What do you think?” she asked when he put her on the bed, rubbing her head. “I’m finished with medical school and said yes to a proposal of marriage.”

“It’s a dream come true.”

He walked back out of the room, looked down the hall, listened for Adelaide, and when he didn’t hear anything, he shut their door.
