Cool.

“I’m pregnant,” I blurted, looking Isaiah right in the face, watching intently for his reaction. At first his lips just parted, brow furrowed, confused.

And he just… stood there, gaping.

But then he looked at Cree, who gave a subtle shake of his head.

I had no idea what that was about, but the next thing off Isaiah’s lips was, “Marry me.”

And… then it was just me and him, nothing else.

“What?” I asked, half-confused. Vaguely, I registered Cree muttering something abouttold his ass not to do it without a ring, and Penelope screeching “WHAT, OH MY GOD!” but… I was focused, really.

“It’s abrupt. I know,” he said, dropping the bag that had been hooked over his shoulder to approach me as I stood from my seat on the couch. “But… I’ve been thinking about it—scared about it… since the day you caught me following you. I love you, Dee. And if you’re… having my baby, which is nuts, but we’ll come back to that… I want it all. I want it official. So… yeah…marry me.”

“I…yes,” I nodded, through very sudden tears, as everything came rushing back into reality.

Isaiah kissing me, Yaya yelling, excited even though she didn’t know why, the others all chattering. When he let me go, the first place I turned was to Alicia. In the back of my mind, I expected her to be frowning, disapproving.

I wasn’t expecting crying.

I wasn’t expecting her to throw her arms around me, hugging me tight around the neck as she whispered – genuinely, happily–“Congratulations.”And then Penelope was on us too, squealing. They were practically suffocating me, and Zay was complaining about not being able to get to his baby mama. Cree was still fussing about him proposing without a ring, and Loren was laughing at it all and tipsy dialing Tempest so she could be in on it.

And it was all very loud and overwhelming… but that was okay.

It was more than okay, it was…perfect.

And I knew right at that moment…thiswas what wholeness felt like.

Finally.

The end.
