“Don’t worry. You’re never going to wear it.” He snatches it from me.

“Then why’d you get it for me?”

“Security.” He rolls it up. “This shirt will always be right here.” He struts over to the nightstand and sets it down. “And if the time ever arises…” He twists and moves to me. “I swear I will fight the fire or the intruder long enough for you to throw that shirt on.”

“You will?”I flick my eyebrows.

“I told you.” He wraps his arm around my waist and draws me close. “I want all of you, Harper James, including your beautiful naked body pressed against mine all through the night.” His eyebrow arches. “Deal?”

I smile up at him. My love. My secret hero. My heart.

“Deal.” I nod.

“Great. Wait.” His forehead creases as he looks at me sideways. “Was that repeat for processing or—”

I place my fingers over his lips. “It’s the new one.” I slide my hand around his neck. “I was just saying it back.”

“You’ll sleep in the buff?”

“Yes. For you, I will do this.” I pull him down to my lips.

“Mmm…those lips.” He nips at my bottom one. “Okay.” He shakes his head. “I’m going to take a shower, and then we can head out to dinner.”

“Sounds good.” I give him a thumbs-up as he always does to me while walking into the kitchen.

My cell rings. I fish it out of my purse. It’s Lisa. I wonder what she wants. I hit the green button.

“Hello.”

“Hi, Harper. I’m sorry to be bothering you. I tried Willa, but she’s not answering. I think she’s on an escort.”

“Is everything okay?”

“I don’t know. This woman came into the center today asking about the escort service, then she showed me a picture of a man and asked me if I’d ever seen him before. It was a picture of that Lix guy. Of course, I acted like I didn’t know what she was talking about, but I thought I should give you a heads-up.”

“Who was she?”

“Luna Moon, she’s a journalist, writes forThe Sun Bulletin. I thought you might want to give Lix a heads-up.”

“Yes. I’ll reach out to him.”

“Okay. You’ll let Willa know?”

“Yeah, I’ll take care of it. Thanks, Lisa.”

“No problem. I’ll talk to you later.”

“Okay, bye.” I click off the phone. Hearing the shower in the background, I stare down at my cell. This isn’t good. It sounds like the escort service is in jeopardy of being exposed.

Well, I guess when you’re in love with a man like Cole Daxon, this is the kind of shit you have to deal with.

That and sleeping in the buff…
