“Yes. If we’re going to do this, then let’s do it right. I want one with a queen size bed.”

I smiled. “I want one with a full-size shower.”

“And a nice kitchen and a pull-out grilling station outside. And I promise not to burn our steaks again,” he said.

“I can’t believe we are really going to do this. We’re going to purchase an RV.”

“Randi, I have spent most of my life working and raising my son. When he was grown and left home, then all I had was work. If you would’ve asked me a month ago what I was planning on doing for the next ten years, I’d have said, work. Then you came into my life. Granted I want to still work, but it’s not what I live for now. I want to wake up looking at your beautiful face. And even when I leave for work, I can’t wait to come home to you. But we are both working too much. I’ve spent most of my life without you. I want to enjoy the rest of my life enjoying it with you.” He tipped my head up and kissed me gently. “I love you, Randi.”

“I love you too, Sam. I never thought that the greatest part of my life was going to start in my fifties. I can’t wait to start this new chapter of my life with you,” I said. “I never thought I’d be saying this, but we owe Bob some concert tickets. If it wasn’t for his dumb idea, I might not have ever found my other half.”

Sam chuckled. “And Samantha might not have ever landed the job she’s been dreaming of either.”

“What does Bob have to do with that?” I asked.

“I guess he is the one who recommended her. Bob might be a little…off, but he has connections like no one else I know.”

“I guess I’ve been too hard on him,” I said.

“No. He deserved everything you said and more. But deep down inside, all he wants is for us all to be happy,” Sam said.

“Then I guess he got his wish, because I don’t think I’ve ever been happier,” I said.

“I know one thing that would make me even happier,” he said.

“Does it have to do with the RV?” I asked.

He shook his head and said, “Not totally.”

“What is it?”

“What do you think of the last name Bethel?” he asked.

“It’s a nice name.”

“I think it sounds pretty good too. Let’s give it a try. Randi Bethel. Yes. I like the sound of that. How about you?” he asked.

“Randi Bethel? Are you asking me to marry you?” I said, eyes wide in surprise.

“Yes I am. Randi, will you make my life complete and be my wife.”

I fought back the tears, wrapped my arms around his neck and said, “Yes. Yes, I’ll marry you. Yes, I’ll take your last name. And yes, marrying you will bring me more joy than I ever imagined.”

He kissed me and then said, “Maybe we could go RV shopping later.”

“Why not tomorrow?” I asked.

“Tomorrow, we go ring shopping.” He pulled me back in for another kiss.

I didn’t care what the ring looked like. We could get it out of a gumball machine for all I cared. I had everything I wanted right here, right now.

Tomorrow was just another day, but today was the start of my happily ever after. Today he asked, and today I said yes.

The End
