He’ll never leave me, I see it in his eyes every time he looks at me, all the words he can’t say. He struggles with emotions and is still learning how to love. I guess I am too. I still wake up with nightmares, but my Boogeyman is there to scare them away. Sometimes I flinch or get angry when I think about what happened.

He’s taught me how to channel it, use it. He’s been training me every day for the last three months. Sometimes I want to kill him when I’m exhausted and covered in sweat. He puts me through night drills, weapons training, hand-to-hand combat, survival training, all of it. I feel like I joined the military, but I actually think this may be harder. He doesn’t go easy on me because we’re sleeping together, because we live together. No, he’s tougher on me than anyone else. Spider came to check up on us and watched a drill, and he actually felt sorry for me. He even brought his partner, Nadia. He was right—we get on well. It’s nice to know there is a family of people out there like us.

As for Idris… well, he makes up for it by making me come all night. In the spare moments we have, we decorate our house, fashioning it how we both always imagined.

Our refuge from the world.

“Nobody missed her,” I comment as I look up at him, the man who is always by my side. The monster they avoid in the streets, the killer even killers run from. Yet here he stands with his hand in mine, offering comfort when I need it.

He looks down at me and frowns. “Then they are fools.”

“Would you miss me?” I tease.

He turns me, presses me to the stone, and grips my throat hard. “I won’t ever need to miss you, you’ll be right here for the rest of our lives, Bitch,” he snarls.

“Promise, Boogeyman?” I whisper.

“Promise,” he rumbles, and then he leans down and kisses me as his phone rings. He pulls it out and answers, his eyes still on mine. He’s only inches away, so I hear everything.

“I have a job for you both, one mil contract. Target is a Russian general, so pack your passports. There’s a jet waiting at the strip. Do you accept?” I hear Donald ask.

He arches his eyebrow, and I smirk. “Hell yes.”

“You heard her,” he says and hangs up, leaning down to kiss me. “I love you.” It’s so quiet that I blink as I pull back.

“You better. I didn’t save your ass from that dungeon just for your gun.” I grin, and he rolls his eyes.

“Shut the fuck up before I make you. We need to prepare.” He pulls me away without letting me glance back at the gravestone. It’s my past, after all, and the man at my side is my future, and the future looks fucking bright.

Bloody, but bright.

As we walk from the cemetery, I hear gunshots in the distance echoing through the city.

This city is going to war, and although it’s not our fight, our story is far from over. Down in that dungeon, I found my purpose, my place in this world. It’s not what I thought it would be, but with my assassin at my side, I know I can survive anything.

Together.

It may have started with revenge, but it ends with love and plenty of fucking death.

After all, I’m an assassin now.

Boogeyman’s bitch.
