Epilogue

Calax

Voices.

Some indistinct murmurs. Some louder.

None of them were hers.

“The girl here?” This voice sounded just over my head.

Was I dying? Was this death?

“That is a negative. Look at this fuck. Is he still alive?” Somebody touched my neck.

“Barely. Think we should have Michaels check him over?”

“If he knows where the girl is…”

The voices trailed off, and I mercifully drifted back to sleep.

I awoketo someone touching me. Poking me.

Pain. Agonizing pain.

A scream escaped my lips before I could smother it.

“Shut him up, will ya?”

My eyes were blurry, barely able to focus, but they did latch onto a figure leaning over me. White lab coat. Gray hair. A doctor.

And behind him?

Two masked figures.

One a lion. One a plain white mask with red eyes.

I struggled to hold onto consciousness, but it pulled me under. Frankly, it was better than the pain.

So much pain.

Pain.

Darkness.
