“Erm actually…” I frantically try to come up with an excuse.

“Come on, firecracker, don’t let me down now. I’ve got it all planned. My mate at the bike shop has closed it for the day, so it’ll just be us and the servicing guys there. And I’ve rented a convertible so we can have the roof down to enjoy the sun. And if you really play your cards right, I’ll stop at your favourite country pub on the way back and maybe kick your ass at darts.”

He winks, and I grin at him in challenge. Darts? Bring it on. I used to love playing and was pretty good at it once. I may not have practised for ages but muscle memory will kick in surely?

“You’re on! Let me get ready and then I’ll even let you buy me breakfast en route.”

“Oh you will, will you?” Dev laughs, and his whole face lights up. It’s breathtaking. He always looks handsome, scowling and moody. He really manages to pull off that mardy-arse bad-boy look, but he’s beautiful when he smiles. It makes me smile too. “What?”

“Nothing.”

“That’s not a nothing smile. What?”

“Nothing.”

He gives me a hard look. I sigh. “I like it when you smile. You’re cute.”

“Cute?” He wrinkles his nose up like I just insulted him. And I suppose, for Devon who prides himself on being tough, I have. “Cute? I’ll give you cute!”

He dives on me, tackling me down onto the mattress so that I’m lying on my back and begins to tickle me. I scream with laughter and desperately try to wiggle free. It’s no use though, Dev is so much stronger than me.

“Stop! Stop! Please!” I laugh. I don’t want him to stop though. His proximity is setting my skin alight. We always used to play fight and goof around, and truth be told, I miss it. This is the most normal I’ve felt with Devon in months.

“I'm going to wet myself!” I cry when I finally can’t take it anymore. Devon’s weight pressing down on me, his heat, his scent…it’s all too much. I'm in danger of doing something foolish. “I yield! I’ll buy breakfast!”

He immediately stops and sits up, straddling me. He’s grinning but breathing just as hard as I am. I groan.

“What?”

“Get off me you big lump! You’re crushing me to death.”

Lie. I don’t ever want him to move. But I want to kiss him so badly, and that would be a terrible idea.

Only, Dev’s looking at me like he wants to kiss me too, and on his face, it looks like a damn good idea. I wet my lips, suddenly parched. Dev’s eyes darken as he tracks the route my tongue takes.

He leans down towards me and the shift of his hips makes me gasp. He’s hard. For me. He wants me as much as I want him. I give a tentative roll of my hips up to meet his and a guttural growl escapes his throat. My nipples instantly harden at the sound.

A door slams and a voice calls out, “We’re back!” causing us to spring apart guiltily. Devon climbs off me, cool as anything, and wanders out to the lounge while I scramble to appear normal.

I quickly get changed, running a brush through my dark locks and swiping on some clear gloss, before joining the guys in the lounge.

“Hey,” I say nervously when all their eyes turn to me. It’s the first time we’ve all been in a room together since…and no-one is meeting my eye.

“You look nice,” Tex says after clearing his throat nervously. “Are you going out somewhere?”

“Yeah, I’ve been wanting to get out and enjoy the weather but I didn’t want to go alone, and I know you guys have all been pretty busy… I guess I jumped at the chance today when Devon asked me out.”

“He what?” Tex asks sharply.

“Not like that,” I hastily reply. “He wants someone to look at bikes with him.”

“Well I guess as his favourite pillion rider it makes the most sense that he’s taking you,” East adds, smiling easily. I give him a tentative smile in return before turning to Devon.

“Do I need to bring my lid or a jacket or anything?”

“Nah. Today’s just a first look, a recce to see what’s out there. It’s been a long time since I had a new bike, and the market’s flooded right now. You can help me shortlist a few and we can test ride them next week. Does that sound good to you?”

“It does actually. But I guess I owe you breakfast first.”
