Grant didn’t acknowledge him.

“Hey! Grant!” Huck stepped inside the office and tried waving again.

Grant was so fixated on the computer screen in front of him that he still didn’t notice Huck.

Huck poked Grant’s shoulder.

“Ah!” Grant jumped and threw off his headphones.

“Sorry, sorry, sorry!” Huck tried not to laugh, gently massaging Grant’s shoulders. “I didn’t mean to scare you!”

“Dammit, Huck!” Grant groaned loudly, but he was clearly fighting a smile.

“Grant?” Aurora had jerked away in surprise, scooting her chair back from Grant. She pulled her headphones from her ears. “Are you okay?”

“Yup. Fine. Good!” Grant retrieved the headphones from the floor. “Sorry, uh… Thought I saw something on the DVR. It’s, uh, just some dust.”

“Who’s Huck?”

“Huh?”

“Huck. You saiddammit, Huck.”

Grant’s cheeks pinked up. “No, I said dammit, fuck. Yeah. That’s totally what I said.”

“Uh-huh.” Aurora batted her eyes. “Totally a coincidence that one of the ghosts is named Huck, huh?”

“Totally.” Grant grinned sheepishly.

“She’s good,” Huck whispered.

Grant cleared his throat in what may have been agreement.

“If you need to go, I’m just gonna pretend you went to the bathroom and I have no idea where you are.” Aurora put her headphones back on with a very confident smirk. “Have fun.”

“Uh, well.” Grant glanced at Huck.

“You really, really should come with me,” Huck said. “I’ve finally got something.”

“Thank you!” Grant stood up to give Aurora a hug before gleefully hurrying out into the hallway. “You’re on bell duty tonight, right?”

“Yeah, how much time do I have?”

Grant looked at his phone. “Not enough. Come on, we can talk in the dining room.” He charged forward, leaving Huck to catch up as they hurried there. As soon as they stepped in, Grant looked all around to make sure they were alone. “Okay, Bachata went upstairs to take a shower, Cary is listening to DVR stuff up in his room or napping, and I have no clue where Finn or Janice or the rest of the crew are, but—”

Huck kissed him, enjoying the pleasant zing as their energies swirled together from the connection. He cradled the side of Grant’s face, and he slipped his tongue into Grant’s mouth for a deep, lingering kiss. He loved how Grant melted against him, and he focused on making his upper body as solid as possible to catch him. “Mmm, sorry. Missed you.”

“Missed you too.” Grant pulled back with a shy smile. “Uh, so. You didn’t just pull me away from work to make out with me, did you? I mean, not that I would really be that mad about it if you did.”

“Nope. I finally got something.” Huck hesitated.

“What’s wrong?”

“I have to tell you how I heard it and I really don’t wanna.”

“What is it?” Grant laughed. “I’m not sure if I should be afraid or grossed out.”

“Maybe both?” Huck took Grant’s hands to lead him over to the table near the one Mrs. Charles always ate dinner at so they could sit down. “So, I ditched Janice for a little bit—”
