“Huck!” Grant scolded.

“Just hear me out! Becks and Sip mentioned that Myrna and Finn have been doing some pillow talk stuff where they talk about family, okay?”

Grant leaned back in his chair. “Wait, so her and Finn…?”

“Oh. Yup. Definitely. In lots of positions.”

“Okay. I guess, uh, that’s nice. I think.” Grant frowned. “How exactly did Precipitation and Rebecca know about this, ahem, pillow talk?”

“Uh.” Huck blinked. “Is that really important?”

Grant frowned, and then he gasped. “Oh, for fuck’s sake! They’ve been watching them have sex, haven’t they?”

“We both know you already know the answer to that question.”

“That’s so rude!” Grant smacked Huck’s shoulder.

“Ow!” Huck laughed. “Why are you hitting me?”

“It’s just… ugh!”

“They’re ghosts, and they’re perverts. They were probably perverts before they died. So, now they’re dead perverts who get very bored and have very limited avenues to try and entertain themselves.”

“Fair.” Grant made a face. “I mean, I get it. I know it’s not the same as living people spying or whatever, but it’s still weird. You have no idea how many places I’ve been where I’ve told ghosts to quit watching me.”

“Yeah?” Huck grinned. “Watching you do what?”

“So, hey, what were you gonna tell me?” Grant blushed a deep shade of red. “You know, the really important thing you discovered via your Peeping Tom ghost friends?”

“Right. So.” Huck made a mental note to revisit that question later. “Myrna and Janice? Apparently, Myrna gave Janice up for adoption. She was real fucked up after the cult stuff, so she didn’t think she’d be a good parent. Fast forward a bunch of years later, she’s gotten therapy and gotten better, and she tried to find Janice. Something something, records sealed, couldn’t get her, so Myrna moves on and gets married and has a son. Okay?”

“Okay.”

“Janice grows up and somehow figures out Myrna is her mommy. She comes here, wants to play happy family, and Myrna is like, yay, let’s do this.”

“Which explains how Rebecca and Precipitation knew who she was.”

“Yup. Janice lived here for a while, I guess, and oh, this is where it gets good. She was super obsessed with asking Myrna all kinds of crap about the hotel and the cult. Myrna didn’t say exactly what, but whatever it was led to them having a big nasty fight because she didn’t want to tell Janice about it.”

Grant perked up. “Really?”

“Uh-huh. Myrna didn’t wanna talk about it, and Janice kept pushing her. Myrna said she hadn’t spoken to Janice in I guess a couple of years before she called her wanting to film here at the hotel. And then, ha, Janice said she didn’t want anyone to know that they were related and has been totally ignoring her.”

“Now we know…” Grant paused, looking up at the doorway. “Ah, it’s time.”

Mrs. Charles was strolling in like clockwork, headed right for her usual table.

“I’m on it. Hold that thought.” Huck stood, kissed Grant on the top of his head, and then he took the position next to Mrs. Charles’s table. He waited for the proper moment, took a deep breath, and said, “Ding!”

Mrs. Charles continued on with her imaginary dinner as always.

“There we go.” Huck returned to his seat. “Now, what were you saying?”

“Now we know why Myrna hadn’t said anything and why you didn’t hear anything about it from Janice.” Grant shook his head. “My gut is telling me that the cult is the only reason Janice ever got back in contact with Myrna to start with.”

“You think so?”

Grant nodded. “I think Janice must have figured out who her mother was and looked into the cult. Probably read that book Alton wrote and that’s what brought her out here the first time to find Myrna. But when Myrna wouldn’t give her what she wanted, she decided to come back with the show.”
