“You’re okay! Yeah, I’m sorry, Janice fucking took me, but I got out! I was in with the Thing—”

“Seriously?”

“Yeah! It’s okay, I got out of there. But what about you? Janice said she sent fucking shades after Precipitation and Rebecca—”

“She did, but they’re okay too! We’re all okay! It was kinda cool actually. I mean, not cool because they were in danger, of course, but I did this weird light thing—”

“Oh, my God!” Janice groaned from the floor. “Will you two ever shut the fuck up?”

“Wait, she can hear me?” Huck blinked.

“She can totally hear you,” Grant replied. “She’s a medium!”

“What?” Huck scoffed. “But she’s not glowing!”

“I don’t know! Maybe she’s been hiding it somehow—”

“Or she just really sucks at it.”

“Look, she’s been using power from the Thing, who is apparently an ancient spirit named Baus.”

“That’s a dumb name.”

“Dumb? Oh, you just wait!” Janice was fighting to get up, and the door of the nearby morgue creaked open.

From where Grant was, he couldn’t tell who was coming up the stairs, but Janice certainly didn’t look happy.

She scowled and said firmly as she rose to her feet, “Shouldn’t you two be filming right now? Go back down to—”

“No fuckin’ way,” Cary barked, barreling into view with a snarl. “I know I heard Grant callin’ for us. You shut your…” When his eyes found Grant, he gasped. “Hey, what the fuck? Grant?”

“He’s fine!” Janice said quickly.

“She tried to fucking feed me to the goddamn Thing!” Grant snapped. “Don’t listen to a damn word she says!”

“Oh, please.” Janice rolled her eyes. “Grant has clearly had a psychological break of some kind. He attacked me! He tried to kill me! He’s rambling nonsense about demons and ghosts!”

“Those are pretty serious accusations.” Finn narrowed his eyes and crossed his arms. “Are you willing to repeat them to the authorities? Because from where I’m standing—”

“Whoa, whoa!” Cary stared. “Am I high? Or, uh… Can anybody else see what I’m seeing?”

“What?” Finn snapped. “We are trying to discuss something very important—”

Cary grabbed Finn’s head and then physically turned him to look at Grant.

Finn made an audible squeaking sound. “Is that… aghost…next to you?”

“Huh?” Grant stared at Huck and then back at Finn and Cary’s very shocked faces. “You can… see him? Guy in the hoodie?”

Finn and Cary nodded in nearly complete unison.

“Oh. Uh.” Huck waved. “Hi!”

Finn jerked in surprise and took a comically quick step behind Cary. “Uh, s-so. That’s, uh, that’s a… that would be a ghost.”

“Fuckin’ cool,” Cary whispered excitedly.

The floor rumbled, and there was a loud crack from the staircase. The steps were shattering and chunks of wood flew against the wall.
