The medium was walking as if in a trance, and the pulse in the stairs was throbbing louder as he got closer.

Huck gasped. “Ohfuck.”

“It’s waking up,” Precipitation hissed frantically. “Right now.”

Huck grabbed Precipitation’s arm. “Can he see that fuckin’ thing?”

“I-I don’t know!”

“Well, it sure seems like he does!” Huck ran out in front of the medium without hesitation, wishing he could make himself tangible long enough to block his path. The medium walked right through him, of course, which was very weird and slimy andugh, and Huck groaned in frustration.

He wished he had been able to learn how to do this shit when Precipitation had tried to teach him. He could hear the ever-present pulse from the thing in the stairs rising to a deafening roar, and he started to panic. It seemed to be reacting to the medium’s proximity, and Huck had no idea what was going to happen if it woke up except it would probably be bad.

“He is not my scrumping buddy.”

“Well! Certainly not withthatattitude.” Precipitation smiled, and there was a sly twinkle in his eye as he dramatically tiptoed toward Grant.

“Sip.” Huck scowled.

“What?”

“Don’t.”

“Hmm?” Precipitation was creeping awfully close to Grant now. “Don’t what, sweetie?”

“Don’t do whatever you’re going to do.”

Precipitation batted his eyes and then promptly pinched Grant’s ass.

Grant’s responding shriek made Huck cringe, and he grimaced in sympathy while Precipitation cackled.

“Oh! Just look at him!” Precipitation wheezed. “This is fantastic! Oh, oh, oh! He is just adorable! Look at him! You’d think no one’s ever pinched him before!”

“You are such a jerk,” Huck mumbled.

Everyone seemed upset, especially Grant, and Huck hated to see such a pained look on that handsome face. He couldn’t hear exactly what was being said except that the fussy woman was angry and the hosts were vehemently arguing with her.

Huck dared to step closer to Grant, watching Grant sneaking glances around the room and…
