“Ok,” Speed said. He sniffed hard and nodded. “I have to fly to Rhode Island and get the rosary. There’s nothing I can do about how long that will take but I can use that time to work on a plan.” He was steadier and Lavender could see a glimmer of Speed’s stubbornness but he still lacked faith.

“This is what I want to hear but I need you to believe it.” Lavender gave Speed’s back a soft pat as he turned him. “Go and get whatever it is you need and head for Chicago. I’ll call Blink and tell him you’re on your way to Chicago and to have a jet ready. We’ll all be here and check in with you once you’re in the air. You’ll have a plan and a team by the time you land, I promise,” he said and Speed stopped. His eyes were huge as they swung back to Lavender.

“Thank you!”He threw his arms around Lavender and was shaking. “I didn’t know what else to do when I came here. I thought I’d have to beg for your help or admit that I’d fucked all of this up by not listening to you.”

“Shhhh!” Lavender gave his back a firm pat, then held Speed away from him. “I don’t know what I would have done differently if I had been in your shoes or if I would change anything at all. But you’re here and you trust me now and that’s going to make a hell of a difference. Go get that rosary. I’ll call you once you’re in the air,” he said as he gently pushed Speed to get him moving. Speed let out a watery laugh and gave Sage a quick hug before he dashed out the front door and down the porch steps. Sage hissed as he shut the door and fell back against it.

“I know this is not the right time but that was one of the sexiest things I’ve ever seen you do, Mr. Lavender,” he said, causing Lavender’s brows to jump as he blinked at Sage.

“What?” He asked, completely befuddled. It was shameful to be this confused and turned on when Lane’s brother was in trouble. Sage’s shoulders climbed to his ears and he was sheepish as he reached for Lavender.

“It would have beenso easyfor you to rub it in Speed’s face and make him grovel but you’re so much better than that. And I can only imagine all the terrible things you want to do to Frank Leary becauseIwant to rip him to pieces with my bare hands. But you won’t because you’re more worried about Blake and Lane than you are about your ego.” Sage’s arm slid around his shoulder and Lavender groaned as their lips brushed. “That’s so fucking sexy and I’m going to do the hottest, nastiest things to you later.”

“Later?” Lavender parroted, dizzy and aching as Sage’s body pressed against his.

“Lane and Aiden should be here any minute—”

There was a quick tap at the door before it swung open and Lane peeked into the foyer.

“Time to get to work!” Sage said and pressed a quick kiss to Lavender’s lips.

“Indeed,” Lavender said, reenergized and determined to find Blake and make sure Frank Leary’s existence came to an end as soon as possible. “I’m not going to sugarcoat this, Lane. Blake’s in trouble.”

“Is it Leary?” Lane asked tightly, his jaw clenching as he crossed his arms over his chest. “We saw Speed take off as we pulled up. He waved but he didn’t stop when I tried to flag him down.”

“He’s headed to the airport to get the rosary from Blackhurst. I’m about to call Blink and let him know. You should brace yourself before I tell you the rest.”

Aiden shut the door behind him and hugged Lane’s back as he waited for the bad news.

“Just give it to me. I can take it,” Lane rasped but Aiden whispered a prayer. The arm around Lane tightened and Lavender had to pull in a steadying breath as his hatred for Leary became stunning.

“Leary has Blake. He says he’s got Blake trapped in the Corvette and will blow it up if he thinks we’re tracking him or I’m on my way to kill him.” Lavender saw him flinch and the color drained from Lane’s face. He had never seen him that scared and Lavender wanted bloody, violent vengeance as he gripped Lane’s shoulder. “We’re going to have everyone on this by the time Speed gets on that jet,” he reassured him and Lane nodded.

“Ok. Good.” Lane said but he was still pale and reeling.

“Leary won’t hurt Blake. Not yet. He can’t punish Speed without him,” Aiden said calmly then gave Lane a hard squeeze before releasing him. “Let’s get Blink on the line,” he ordered as he pointed at the mantle. Lane sniffed hard, nodding as he gave himself a shake.

“You heard him,” he said to Lavender and went after Aiden. Lavender glanced at Sage and he was smiling as he leaned against the banister.

“Later,” Sage said with a wink, then turned on his heel. “I’m going to make coffee and get some snacks together. I have a feeling it’s going to be a long evening.”

“I love you,” Lavender called after him and Sage smiled over his shoulder.

“I love you too. Get that asshole,” he said, then disappeared into the kitchen.

“As you wish,” Lavender murmured. “Alright, Toly. Are you there?”

“What do you need, sir?” Toly asked a moment later, his soft Russian lilt floating from the speakers in the ceiling and around the living room.

“Frank Leary’s taken Blake but we can’t let him know that we’re coming for him. I need to talk to Blink and it’s time for Reginald to come home. I have a feeling he’ll be catching a ride back with Speed.”

“Yes, sir,” Toly replied quickly and enthusiastically. “I have notified Alon and Mr. Blink will contact you in just a few minutes. He is in the middle of an important call but is cutting it short. I’ll relay all of this to Marston and have him caught up and ready to work by the time Speed is in the air.”

“Thank you,” Lavender said as he looked at the screen. Denver was watching from a box in the corner and offered a salute. “Let’s get to work, gentlemen.”
