Taking in a deep breath I continue down the dark hall to the end and see the man that hurt me laying on a bed. A massive bed. This is supposed to be a dungeon, not a damn Holiday Inn.

I put the food tray on the floor and kick it under the cell bars where there is a gap. It startles him and he sits up on the bed and looks at me. His eyes are the color of honey. I can’t help but stare at them, even as he comes closer. “Raven. You came.” He says hesitantly.

“Not by choice, Lilith basically tossed the tray in my hands and demanded I come bring it to you.”

“We should talk.”

I shrug, “What possibly could we talk about huh? How you raped me? How you forced yourself into my body, how you wouldn’t stop even when I begged you?”

He winces, “I’m sorry, you couldn’t possibly know how sorry I am. I didn’t know you didn’t know. I thought you knew all about our ways and were just trying to deny the mating call.”

I turn to walk away from him. “I’ve dreamt of you,” he calls out, “Every day for months I’ve dreamt of you. When I saw you in the club, I couldn’t help it, I thought the gods above were smiling down upon me. Finally giving you to me.”

Swallowing thickly I turn back around.

“I’m almost six hundred years old and have never found a mate until now. You only get one mate. And you were what I dreamed of. When I finally had you everything in my life suddenly made sense, but it was also in that moment I realized you weren’t trying to play me up. I swear to you, I didn’t know.” He’s pleading with me to understand, and it’s cracking at me.

“I’ve dreamt of you also, I didn’t know the dreams were real, but in each one they were always somewhat the same.” I admit to him. “You hurting me, always a different location after leaving the club. I thought that night, after a huge sense of déjà vu I could get away, but you were still there. And you again hurt me.” I don’t want to admit the part where I got off on it, because it was still wrong.

I take off from the basement, as he calls out to me. I can’t do this right now. It’s too much.

Chapter 15

Dagan

Everyday she comes back, bringing me food. It’s been two weeks; she now brings me meals twice a day instead of just breakfast time. Tristian is often gone, leaving me alone in my thoughts. Each visit we talk more and more. We no longer talk about what happened between us the first time we met. There is still lots of hurt there, I can see it in her eyes.

This time she comes, she’s wearing a small smile on her face. “I hope you don’t mind, but I asked them to bring an extra chair and extra food so I could join you for a little?”

I don’t even hesitate to say it’s okay, it’s more than okay.

“So, tell me about yourself.” She asks me as she passes me the tray of food through the bars. I wish she would just open the doors so I can embrace her, but I understand her need for the space right now. I don’t think I’d be able to keep my hands off of her if she opened the door.

“As you know, I’m Dagan. I was born hundreds of years ago, um, I’m king of my people.” This almost feels like pulling teeth. What exactly does she want me to tell her that she doesn’t already know.

She giggles. “Tell me about your people.”

“They are loyal to a fault. I don’t often have uprisings or fights, it’s mostly between the duds that I have to get involved.”

Frowning, “Duds?”

“You have a lot to learn about our kinds. Duds are what we call humans. Humans came from us, mostly with cross breeding but duds can happen in a full breed.”

Her eyes widen. “No way, is that true.”

“It is, it’s not something that was shared during the coming out, I’m sure that wouldn’t have gone over well. But original humans come from supernatural’s. Many choose to leave their homesteads for the human world, sometimes they come back when they’ve married. The usual fighting in our lands is when a dud wants a shifter they can’t have, because every shifter in the world has a mate. A mate can never be a dud, or human I should say.”

“Yes, lets stick with human, calling humans duds sounds quite mean to be honest.”

She quietly chews on her food and swallows. “What of the other kings, do you know them?”

Part of me wants to lash out and say she doesn’t need the others, but when the oracle speaks, that’s it, you listen. “There is Nev, king of the angels. Luc, king of the demons, and Ryder, king of the vampires. I get along most with Ryder, Luc and Nev I only see when we all meet with the Oracle, or the previous Queen.” I tell her, I’m not really sure if I should be the one telling her more about them, I think that should be left to them as they arrive for her.

“Ryder doesn’t seem like a name for a king, more like a biker.” She states.

I laugh, “You’d be right, but his parents didn’t listen to the Oracle when she said he would become the next king of vampires. They thought they’d be secure in their positions for another millennium at least.”

“Hmm, what about you, how did you become king?”
