“Yes, dear child.” Sounding much older, I would have put her at thirty, but her voice carries as if she’s at least double that. Not a surprise I suppose. I’ve heard that once witches reach a certain age, the aging process stops and that’s how they stay for all their immortal days. “We have much to discuss and must do so now.”

“Um, I’m not quite sure what we need to discuss. I don’t know you, I’m sorry if that’s rude, but you should probably leave now.” I reply with a nervous tickle in my throat.

She takes a seat in the café area of the store and pulls out a few envelops, placing them on the table. “Your thirtieth birthday is coming up, yes?”

I narrow my eyes at her, this stranger, how could she know that? “Yes. It’s in a few weeks.”

“Then we must start preparing you. Thirty years ago, The Oracle, was with child, the future Queen of all immortals, but she saw great death coming, and wanted her child kept safe until she reached of age.”

“Ma’am, I’m sorry, but I don’t see what this has to do with me?”

“My dear, please close and lock up, and come sit.” I quickly do what she says, not really wanting to anger a witch, and sit across from her.

“Now where was I, oh yes. She found human Pagan parents, who longed so badly for a child of their own, and they vowed to protect her at all cost, until her thirtieth birthday. I’m sure you are aware of some facts about immortal witches?” I nod slightly, I’m not liking the sound of where this is going. “When a witch turns thirty, they come into their powers, never to age again, the only way for a witch to die is to destroy the Culling Veil in which a witch is born in.” This stuff is fascinating, I was always researching the different supernatural species, but witches never much interested me, until now. “You my dear Raven, are that child. You are the next Queen of all Supernatural’s.” I stare at her a moment, thinking this is a joke.

Then I burst out laughing. “Oh you got me good.”

Her hand reaches out to grab mine, the touch has my skin feeling flushed, hot; I don’t understand it and pull away. “My dear, this is not a joke, you are my daughter. Your birthday is approaching and there is much we need to discuss to prepare you. A lot of the coven have turned against each other, as have other Supernaturals. There is a war coming, and only you and your mates will be able to defeat the enemies.”

“Wait what? Mates? What’s that mean. Like okay, say I believe you, what do you mean by mates?” I don’t believe her, but I’m intrigued.

“As I saw it, you are to be mated and married to the King of the Vampires, The King of the Shifters, The King of the Angels, and the King of Demons. You’ll encounter your first King in three days time.” Three days time? “You will bare their children, and when you defeat those against us, you will rule, with your Kings by your side.”

I hold up a hand. “Just hold on a minute. I’m down for some threesome action, an orgy or two, been there done that. But are you saying I’m to basically have four husbands?”

“Yes, my daughter, once the Mate call is sounded, you can’t turn it away, and you will be mated for life. There is no cheating in our culture, it’s just not possible unless you’re unmated.”

I stand up, knocking the chair over as I do. “Look, this was a great story and all, but I’m not into some polygamous shit, I’m not a damn witch, and I know I’m not adopted. My parents would have told me so. They couldn’t get pregnant after me, and adopted my brother, Steven, and from day one, they always made sure he knew. So if I was adopted, I would have been told about it.”

“They couldn’t tell you, Raven, they made a vow, only I could tell you, when the time was right. I needed to keep you safe until you came into your power.”

“This is seriously such bullshit. Witches and mates, four fucking husbands. One man is hard enough. Fuck this.”

I move to the back door, needing to leave, “Raven, you were named after my sister. I believe you know her as Ravenna.” Her words stop me, and I feel betrayed.

“Ravenna is my mother’s sister,” I croak.

“Yes, she is. Mine.” Now it makes sense, why they never looked anything alike, why Ravenna has a store like this. I always just thought she was playing the role of a witch, not actually one.

“I can’t. I have to go.” This shit can’t be true, there is no way my parents would keep something like this from me. I leave the store and head out to my car, taking off in the direction of my parents’ storage unit. Ravenna set this place up after they died, at the time it was too fresh to go through their things. And then time just got away from me.

If what that crazy witch just told me is true, there has to be proof somewhere.

Chapter 3

Dagan

Waking up alone is a bitch, ever since these fucking dreams started up, I can’t even find myself tempted to fuck another woman. And I’ve tried, hell, just last night, a tiger shifter was at the club, sexy bitch wanted me, and I thought I could have her, but then the second she touched me, I felt guilt. I tried to brush it aside, since I’m not mated yet, and still fuck the tiger, but my fuckin’ cock wouldn’t even get a damn chub.

“Sir, it’s almost ten, your bags are in the car, we’re just waiting on you.” Tristian, one of my guards tells me.

Shit, I almost forgot about the Oracle requesting my presence. Originally all us Kings were summoned, but then for some reason she decided just Ryder, King of the Vampires, and I. She didn’t really say much else, but she never really does, until we’re face to face.

I’ll never understand Witch customs. Their mating is different from us shifters. Shifters mate for life, with just one other, same with the other species, only humans are despicable with their cheating bullshit. Some witches even mate with one, however the Oracle, including all Witches that are heads of Covens, take on multiple mates.

I’ve tried to understand it, but I don’t. How can their soulmate be split like that? Although from what I’ve seen of the Oracle and her men, they all look very much in love. I even questioned her first husband what it was like, and he just shrugged and said, ‘It feels natural, I love her.’

I didn’t even bother to ask about the child, the only child the Oracle had, didn’t want to piss off her mates in asking ‘who’s the daddy.’ However, I suppose it doesn’t matter now. Not with the Oracle’s daughter in hiding. War started the night she was born, and the Oracle, scared for the life of her child, hid her away. Everyone thinks she’s dead, however only the Oracle, her men, and us Kings know the truth that she isn’t.
