“Go take a nap, get a drink. Something. Get your mind off it for now. Tomorrow you are going out with your friend, what’s her name, and enjoy yourself. Forget about all this. We’ll talk more after you’ve celebrated your birthday.”

I give Ravenna a quick hug and start my journey of forgetting my awful day.

Chapter 5

Dagan

Arriving to the mansion took forever, probably would have been faster for me to run in a shifter form. “King Dagan, a pleasure.” The oracle has been acting Queen for the last thirty years so I bow to her as I would if she were actually the Queen. “Come in, you must be famished from your long journey here.”

Of course I am, Canada is something else, why the Oracle and most of the witches choose to live here I’ll never know.

“We will discuss the reasoning for the visit at dinner, your room is prepared for you.” She gives me a smile. “Tristian has been here before he knows the way. Come along.” She beckons me to follow her.

Coming into the large dining room, food lines the table, more than enough food for an army. “If we don’t eat all this food, what do you do with it?”

“Oh we either store some as leftovers in case we want a midnight snack, the rest is donated to the humans at shelters.” I never thought of doing that, in my home we eat everything on our table in one sitting, although it’s never this much. But it makes sense to give food to those that need it.

I take a seat to the left of Lilith. “Where are your husbands?” I ask her.

“Oh, they are watching, waiting really.” She says cryptically. “How was your journey here?”

“Long, cold.” I say shortly, digging into the food on the table.

“How can you say cold when the weather doesn’t bother you?” she laughs.

Instead of making small talk, I flat out ask her why I’ve been summoned. “Can we stop beating around the bush and just tell me what I’m doing here? Where are the others?”

“Oh, they will be arriving, staggered because of what is going to happen.”

I lean back in my seat after taking a chunk of chicken off a leg. “So, I’m the first to arrive? Well, are you going to tell me why I’m here, or am I to wait for all the Kings to arrive?”

“Dagan, always so impatient.” She smiles, knowing it’s starting to piss me off, then sighs. “Fine, always right to the point with you. My daughter has been found.”

I’m not really shocked by that, since it’s nearing her thirtieth. “Okay and?”

“Well, that means you will have a Queen, she is to be mated to all the Kings of the immortals.”

My head goes back in shock, choking on a piece of meat lodged in my throat. “That’s not possible, Kings don’t interbreed.”

“I’m sorry to tell you this,” she doesn’t look sorry, “But it’s true. My daughter will become your mate in three days time.”

A king doesn’t share is mate, ever, what will my people think?

“This is war. Madness.”

“War is coming yes, and with you by her side the enemy will be defeated, I’ve seen it.”

“And what of you?” noticing her eyes shifting, I narrow mine.

“I will pass before the great war.”

I rock back in my seat in shock. “Then we lose our Oracle, we can’t have that happen, what can I do to help make that not happen?”

“There is nothing you can do Dagan; it will happen by someone I love dearly. And no, before you ask, not one of my mates. They die with me, as you know.” Yes, I do know, once mated, your life force becomes your mates as well.

“I don’t believe this, there is no way I’m going to be mated to a witch, no offence, but my people will revolt.”

“Dagan, it’s already done, you can already feel it can’t you?”
