She looks to her hands, I notice they are getting old and withered she said witches are immortal, so I don’t understand why she seems to be aging, just since I last saw her.

A tear falls down her face, “My dear, four months into your life, the first attack came, we knew it would be safer for all if you were out of harms way. While you’re unkillable, the enemy would have done much worse to you.”

“So what, you couldn’t protect me? My apparent three fathers couldn’t protect me?”

“Four dear, you have four fathers. Lucius is guarding the shifter in case he does something stupid.”

“Still, that’s five people, powerful witches. I apparently can’t die, so explain why you gave me up.”

My ‘mother’ sighs and joins her hands together. “Witches can die of natural causes, just like humans until their thirtieth year. You were vulnerable, so we found the Hannigan’s. We changed little of their life, renaming them Castor so you wouldn’t have a different name than you already knew. You see, you didn’t go to them until you were three years old.”

“Wait, wait, wait, that doesn’t make sense, I have pictures of myself with them when I was a baby.”

“Yes, you would, because my dear, we made it so.”

I rub at my temples; this is just too much. “Can I have a moment to digest this please.” It’s not really a question.

“Yes, my dear Raven, I will fetch us something to eat and drink and be back in a little while.”

Lilith gets up off the bed and leaves and I flop back to laying position. Why is this my life now, how can this be my life now. I don’t understand any of this. I’m supposed to just simply be a human girl, enjoying her life. Not suddenly a powerful witch.

Chapter 10

Raven

Lilith comes back forty minutes later with one of my fathers in tow, holding trays of food and drinks and sets them on the small table I didn’t notice over by the window.

I spent the last forty minutes trying to figure out a way out of here, but it’s kind of hard when I’m pretty sure the windows are magically locked shut as well as the door.

“There is much to talk about my dear Raven, Cassius my love, leave us please.”

He gives her a kiss so hot I feel like I should be gagging, because after all, these are apparently my parents. Clearing my throat, I look away, not really something I want to see after what just happened to me.

“Sorry about that, sometimes, Cassius, gets carried away. Especially when he thinks my feelings might get hurt.” She gives me a pointed look and for once I feel ashamed.

“Can you blame me for being the way I am. Within twenty-four hours my entire life changed. My whole life was a lie, I was raped by a man that can shift. This isn’t easy for me.”

She looks at me with sad eyes. “I know that my dear, and in just a few short weeks, at the witching hour, you’ll come into yourself, and remember the time before you were giving to your other family. Everything will make sense. Even with what I’m to tell you now, you’ll question it. Your father said to just let you be, but after what you’ve gone through since I entered your shop, I think we must talk.”

Nodding my head, I agree with her. “Let’s start at the beginning, why send me away, and why pick my parents?”

She picks up her teacup and takes a sip and leans back into her chair. “None of us wanted to let you go, but how much do you really know about our kind?” Shake my head, I shrug. Letting her know not much really. “Well, I’m the Oracle, I see things, important things. And starting from the moment you were born we saw bloodshed and death. So much of it. We made sure you could never die, and that’s when visions changed, you getting kidnapped. We couldn’t let that happen. So we knew your other parents, they were in a small coven just outside the forest. When we approached them one day with the task, they were more than happy to take you and care for you. In return I blessed them with the ability to have a child of their own. And then I sent my sister Ravenna to stay close, making sure you were okay at all times.”

This is a lot, but I know it has to come out. At the same time I’m wondering where my dear old auntie is at the moment and purse my lips.

“Did you know that the Oracle cannot be the Queen? I only go by the Queen as well because you are too young to take up the mantle. My mother was the last Queen, and at your birth was when she passed. Not many know this, but there can only be one Queen alive at any given time. All supernatural’s believe we die with the killing of our Culling Veil, and while that’s true, the Queen also dies at the birth of a new Queen. You.”

Well shit, make me feel bad, my birth caused death.

“I took up the reigns so we wouldn’t be without a Queen for so long. And once your powers come to fruition, you’ll be the last Queen in existence. You’ll never die, forever immortal. I’ve seen your children, they will each have special powers of their own, the ability to have all five supernatural traits, except one. One will become the new Oracle.”

“Um, how many children are we talking here?” I’ve never really given much though to children, but I can say I’ve never really wanted them.

“Five, my dear.” I’m gonna puke, that’s not what I was expecting her to say, I thought maybe two, three at most. But five?

Lilith, giggles, “Don’t worry, it will happen over a hundred-year period. That’s as far out as I could see, you could have more, I don’t know, but witches are very fertile and unlike humans we don’t have a time frame to birth children, we can have them any time.”

“So why don’t you and your mates have more children?” I ask her, genuinely curious.
