I blocked her attack with another shield, then reached out with my mind and plunged into the werewolf’s consciousness.
“Kill the witch and fae," I instructed, and he turned to follow my instructions.
But before he could do anything else, an arm pierced the witch's body from behind, and the second werewolf was beheaded.
A massive black wolf in his final form tackled the werewolf I'd taken control of, and the fae’s head rolled on the ground, stopping at my feet.
I blinked.
Everything had happened so quickly, I'd barely seen it, but when two familiar scents drifted up to my nostrils, my heart skipped a beat.
I glimpsed familiar red hair behind the beheaded fae, as the headless body finally fell to the ground.
I gasped when Ruby got up, her black eyes staring into mine. Axel, in his wolf form, rose to his full height as well.
He laid a clawed hand on Ruby's shoulder, and she looked down at her hands, now covered in blood.
“Ruby?” I called out, my voice shaking. “Ruby, Axel… It’s me, Natalie.”
“Where is he?” Ruby asked, her voice one I’d waited so long to hear.
She placed her blood-drenched hand over her heart, and a tear slipped down her cheek. “Where is Xavier, Natalie? Why can’t I feel my mate?”
