I rolled my eyes and then headed straight for the Tube.

When I reached All Saints Tech, my stomach felt tied in knots. I hadn't been back there since Saint and the Rogues team had walked into my father's compound. Interestingly, that was one of the few things I did not think about. Like my brain was trying to protect me from having to relive all of that betrayal and hatred. One of the front desk security guards waved me in, recognizing me. I guess my access wasn't revoked after all. Maureen met me in Saint's reception area. "You are a sight for sore eyes."

"Hi, Maureen. I know I don't have an appointment, but is there any chance—"

"Now child, I know you're not asking me for permission to go in and see your fiancé. That's a standing order. Let me just go tell him there's an emergency. A problem with our Jamaican acquisition."

"Jamaican acquisition?"

"Yeah, that's our code phrase forKaya's here and you need to see her right away."

"Oh, I didn't realize I had a code phrase."

"You do."

"Right. Thanks Maureen."

In three minutes, several people piled out of his office and Maureen came out again too with a wide smile. "He's all yours."

I had no idea what I was going to say. Maybe I was going to slap his stupid little deed down on the table and tell him to shove it. Maybe I was going to cuss him out. He deserved it.

Maybe he does, but you're not going to do that either.

Right. I wanted to see how long I would last before I kissed him.

Ah, that's more like it.

I was doomed.

When I stepped in his office, the faint whiff of his cologne was like coming home. It filled me with thoughts of warmth andhappiness and being wrapped in his arms, and all I wanted to do was soak in it.

Saint was at the bar, pouring me a tonic water with lime. Lots of lime. "Is this still your drink of choice?"

I held out the envelope with the deed inside. "Why did you do this?"

"I think the answer should be obvious. I love you."

I held the paper tight in my hand. Tears welled in my eyes and began streaking down my face. "You hurt me."

"I know. And I know I don't deserve forgiveness, but I'm asking for it anyway."

"You can't just buy me."

"Oh, trust me, I know, but I could give you a gift. Something you wanted. A home of your own. All I wanted to do was make you happy."

"Why did it have to be like this?"

"Because I'm a fool. I was so terrified of loving you that I just pushed you away. I was afraid it couldn’t be real."

"This isn't fair. You're not playing fair, Jasper."

He placed the glass he’d just poured on the coffee table before stalking toward me. "I'm in love with you. I don't intend to play fair. Your move."

He was close. So close that I could smell the sandalwood and vanilla. It wrapped around me, cocooning me, lulling me into a trance. It pulled me into his gravitational orbit, refusing to let me go. I was ensnared in the trap and there was no escaping.

Oh yeah, like you're working real hard to escape.

"This isn't fair."
