I nodded. I felt the same way. “I’ll always be grateful I got you back.”

“Well, unstoppable Honor, now when I look back, it seems inevitable you would win in the end.”

Talisyn and I walked through the bookshelves. As before, he pulled out any book I lingered too long over, and soon he grinned at me over a towering stack that threatened to overflow his muscular arms.

“There’s something I’ve been wondering,” I said. “Why did the magic work, then? To restore your memories?”

“I don’t know,” he said. “I’ve been thinking that the Olds borrowed each other’s stones sometimes. Maybe we tried the wrong one. Maybe it took time to work.”

“Maybe…” Something teased at the back of my mind. A glimpse of something I’d seen through one of my men’s eyes, but I wasn’t sure who. Long fingers rubbing across a milky white stone, releasing its energy.

Zehr.

The lost Scourge stone.

But if Zehr had the stone, had he hidden it? We hadn’t found it on his body.

“I wish I could talk one more time to the Lord of the Scourge,” I said lightly. “We didn’t ever get to finish things.”

“I don’t think the two of you could ever finish things.” He set the books on a wooden table, where the stack wobbled precariously, and turned to me. “You had a bond.”

“You’re not mad about that?”

“Jealous, you mean?” He flashed me a grin. “No. I know you’re mine, even if you aren’tjustmine. That’s all I need.”

He wrapped his hands around my waist and picked me up, setting me on the table.

I cocked an eyebrow at him as I rested my hands on his powerful shoulders. “What are you up to, Lord Talisyn?”

“What are you up to, queen of mine?” he asked, right before his lips met mine.

The lights suddenly turned off, and the shop was only illuminated by the little lights strung across the railing of the second floor balcony and the lamps that rested on the tales.

The bells jangled in the distance, and I pulled away from him. He smiled down at me, all roguish confidence as always. “The shopkeeper is locking up. He’ll bill me.”

“You are a ridiculous man.”

“I’m a romantic,” he corrected. “You need some of that in your life.”

His lips met mine, and I smiled before my lips parted. It was true, each of these men brought such different gifts to my life. I needed them all.

He pulled his tunic over his head, and I gloried in looking at the powerful way he moved, the broad shoulders and lean waist, the mark of mine that curled like a dragon across his skin.

In between kisses, he undressed me with eager hands. His big palms caressed my breasts, then his head dipped to follow them. My back was already arching before his mouth met my nipple, knowing how much pleasure would follow. My breasts felt full and tender before his tongue teased my nipple.

He paused, straightened. He looked uncertain for a second.

“What is it?” I asked.

He leaned in to kiss me, a slow, tender kiss, and I stared up at him in curiosity. There was something reverent about that kiss.

Then he asked me, “Is there any chance you could be pregnant, Honor?”

“What?” I asked him. “No. I’ve got a spell against it. I wouldn’t have taken that risk with Ebba…”

“It’s just that I am quite familiar with these,” his hand gently cupped my breast. “And your nipples look different. Darker. Your breasts are fuller. You seem… more responsive than usual, even.”

It felt as if the world had just slipped from underneath my feet. Could it be true?
