"Our apologies, sir," the officer said to Alastor as they backed out of the room.

The shifter stayed behind. As soon as the elevator started making its descent, he turned to us. "What the fuck happened?"

Samantha shook her head and crinkled her nose as she glanced at me for an answer.

"A vamp tried to kill her. I stopped him," I said.

"That is convenient, right place, right time?" he growled.

"Rai, it wasn't like that," Samantha said, coming to my defense. "Bellamy was there first, we were having a—conversation."

The pretty flush on her cheeks told me she remembered what was happening just prior to the horde arriving. I had almost lost control. We were both lucky I hadn't.

"A conversation?" he asked, judgment outlining his face. "Sammy, I am good with Lex and probably any others. But him?" His fingers pulled through his hair roughly.

"Me? You mean a demon?" I asked, narrowing my gaze at him. Like he was any better. He was a fucking dragon shifter. Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

"You know what I mean," he replied, shifting his gray eyes to me.

"Oh, I do—" I started.

"Enough, I'm not playing whose dick is bigger," Samantha barked as she tumbled from my lap onto the floor. Alastor was over in the blink of an eye to scoop her up. She sagged against him, and I suddenly felt like an ass. It wasn't possible to fall for a demon hunter, but I was pretty sure it was too late.

CHAPTER 36

Samantha

Alastor heldme like I was something to be cherished as he leveled the other two with a dark look.

"Out, the both of you," he commanded. His dog shook off its glamour and growled low, backing up his master's words.

I was positive Raiden was going to fight the issue, so color me shocked when he sighed and turned toward the elevator.

"Take care of her tonight," he said as he paused and angled back to us. "Sammy, I'll see you in the morning. We can talk then."

Bellamy was slower to move. He unfolded from the couch as he eyed us both.

It was all flooding back, the helpless feeling as I watched him cut through his own kind, protecting me. If I had run into even half that many alone, I would be dead. I had to talk to my parents so they would know the true situation. Bellamy wasn't the one causing all the chaos, it was a portal that brought demons here.

The Prince stepped closer. His black-tipped finger ran along the side of my face as he watched me. "Tomorrow we close the portal." Was that concern on his face? Could he feel thatemotion? I wasn't sure. There was so much I didn't know about demons.

"Go, Bell," Alastor commanded, but it was softer this time, and I could feel the history between them in the air. Of course the God had told me he knew him, and that was why his father volunteered him for the task.

Bellamy's bright red irises met Alastor's blueorbs as they had a silent conversation I wasn't privy to. "Thank you," Bellamy finally said, breaking the silence.

"You did the right thing," Alastor replied.

"Don't get used to it," Bellamy snarled as he headed for the elevator. Whatever connection that had been between them snapped as if they couldn't be nice to each other without it opening up old wounds.

As soon as the door closed behind the two very different men, Alastor carried me into the huge ass bathroom and set me on the counter next to the sink.

"Let's get you cleaned up," he murmured. Cerberus plopped down next to him and settled all three heads on his legs. One lifted to look at me as the other two went to sleep, or at least the semblance of resting. I observed Alastor's steady movements as he tested the temperature of the water in the sink. Once he approved, he wet down a white washcloth and wiped the dried blood from my throat.

He worked in silence. As the water ran red, I swallowed. I had almost died, it was fully hitting me, and it left me lightheaded. My fingers curled around his as he brought the rinsed washcloth back to my skin.

"Thank you for saving me," I whispered.

He paused, his gaze darting between my eyes as he considered what to say. "You need to thank Bell. He saved you. If he hadn't brought you here, you would have died."
