He shakes his head and his eyes darken. “No. I shove them in your mouth later while I eat you out so we can taste each other at the same time.”

Fuck. My cock twitches and the heat inside me from earlier flows differently than before. I stare down at the black briefs, stroking the area I know his cock last touched, before rolling them up and shoving them in my jacket pocket. “I can’t wait.”

“You won’t have to for much longer.” He changes into clean clothes, appearing more casual than before. He looks delicious in his black shirt and tight-fitting jeans. I can’t wait to rip them from his body later. Maybe he’ll let me use my beak to tug off each piece.

We share a few more kisses before returning to the party one at a time. Finn visits with family while I grab more food and another drink. It’s my favorite way to keep busy. My cousin Christina walks over to tell me about her new car as I’m on my second piece of brisket. “That’s great,” I say, my attention turning to Finn dancing with his mom. He’s swinging her around the dance floor to the song “Mambo Number Five” and their huge, bright smiles are infectious.

“Yeah, and Carl is finally happy not having to drive me around anymore,” Christina continues.

I nod, trying my best to act like I’m as involved in the conversation as she is. The song changes and Zane cuts in, taking Finn in his arms and dipping him low to the floor. I bite back a laugh and Christina finally turns around to see where my gaze has drifted to.

“Those two are always doing the most, aren’t they?”

“They certainly are the life of the party,” I add.

“Yeah, if you like it when people act like a bunch of goofy children all the time.”

“I’m not sure how being goofy and silly is only something reserved for children. You should try it sometime instead of being so wound up.” I take a sip of my drink and she grinds her teeth before rushing off to her husband.

I laugh around my cup. She’s never liked Finn and I never could understand why. Maybe because she no longer gets as much attention as she did before he came around. Finn is a bright spot on this earth who brings light into each room he enters. He makes people laugh and smile. I’ve never understood how a gift so wonderful could be seen as bad.

Finn parts from Zane, lightly slapping him on the shoulder before walking my way. “What’s that? Your fourth plate for the night?”

I roll my eyes. “No. Third.”

“Close enough. Be sure to save some room for the delicious cake you made.”

“Don’t worry, I will.”

“Good because you’re going to get the very first piece,” he says with a smirk.

I tilt my head, moving my eyes from side to side. “Are you going to serve it to me?”

“I was thinking you could come help me in the kitchen and we can cut it together. Unless you’re too busy shoving my sauce in your mouth.”

I spit out the chip in my mouth, glancing around frantically. I relax when no one is close enough to have heard what he said. “You need to watch that mouth of yours, and yes, I’ll come into the kitchen with you if it keeps you from drawing attention our way.”

“Good, and while we’re in there alone, I can hold your hand.”

Excitement stirs in me and I follow him inside, tossing my plate in the trash on the way to the fridge. I set the cake on the counter and open the top. Finn already has a knife and a stack of plates in his hand.

“You cut the cake and I’ll place each slice on a plate.” He hands me the knife.

I wrap my fingers around the handle and touch the cake with the tip, pausing. “How exactly do you expect to hold hands while I’m cutting the cake and you’re putting the slices on plates?”

I hold the cardboard under the cake in place while I cut long lines into the cake. I move the knife to the bottom and cut horizontally, separating the first row into individual pieces.

“Like this.” He wraps his fingers around my hand holding the cardboard and uses his other hand to grab the cake server. He scoops the first piece up and puts it on the plate while I cut the second row.

“So you’re going to be able to keep doing that one handed?”

He licks his lips. “I can do a lot of things one handed. I’ll show you what I mean a little later.” He winks.

I huff out a breath. “Do you flirt this much with everyone?”

“Nah.” He lifts the second piece onto another plate while still holding onto my hand. “Only the people I like the most, and so far that’s only been you.”

My heart skyrockets in my chest and sparks scatter along my skin. “You always know the right thing to say, don’t you?”
