“I got it, baby. I’m your boyfriend now, so let me do all the shit boyfriends do, and I can guarantee you won’t be calling me little later.” He nibbles at my neck, wrapping his arms around me to hold me in place. “Then afterward, maybe we can find time to cure another hunger of mine. I was so lonely without my love bird in my bed last night.” His warm tongue wets my skin and I roll my bottom lip between my teeth.

“But then we’ll miss the Pupnic,” I say, exasperated.

“Or we can be a little late.” His mouth travels from my neck to my ear and his teeth sink into the center, earning him a moan.

“We’ll see after brunch. Right now, all I can think about is shoving pancakes in my mouth.” I pull free from his grasp, walking toward the door.

He follows closely behind me, his hand wrapping around my neck as we enter the hotel. His cold fingers and the hallway’s warm air mixed together leaves a tingling sensation behind. It’s the best of both worlds running through me, heightening all my senses, and I vibrate on the inside.

“Stop talking about shoving things in your mouth if you don’t want to miss any of the events today,” he says in a low, seductive tone, and it goes straight to my dick. I’m normally good at having more control than this. All until Finn Ramirez came along, complicating my life and being so damn irresistible he shakes the ground I walk on.

“Stop taking everything I say and making it dirty.”

“How about I dirty you instead then?” His hot breath caresses my skin, temporarily turning my legs to mush. He knows what he’s doing to me and is using it to his advantage. It’s a new kind of danger. What happens if I get so lost in him and us, I forget how to find my way out when this thing between us runs its course?

“I hope our room is ready by the time we’re done eating. They told me it shouldn’t take long since the people before checked out super early.”

“Me too. I need to change into my gear and leave my luggage somewhere. I really don’t want us carrying it around at the Pupnic.”

We enter the dining hall and walk to the first empty table we see so Finn can set the bags down. Two cups of coffee and plates of pancakes later, we are back in our seats and doing more eating than talking. Occasionally Finn reaches for my hand to caress the inside of my palm with his thumb while his legs tangle with mine under the table. He has to always keep touching me and I don’t want to ever stop.

A few people passing by greet us with smiles and two introduce themselves, happy to see more newcomers this year. They mention how much the crowd has really grown over the years and how we all practically have the hotel to ourselves. It makes sense why all the rooms were booked up so fast. So many are here for the Pup Play at the Lake event—more than I assumed would be. It has me perking up in my chair at the comfort of knowing I have less of a chance of being judged if I walk around dressed as a dove.

As the couple walks away, waving goodbye and saying they’ll see us at the Pupnic, Finn stacks his empty plate on mine and downs the rest of his coffee. “Guess what, pipsqueak?”

His eyes hold my focus. “How about you tell me instead.”

His eyes sparkle and he lifts his phone in the air. “The hotel messaged me and our room is ready.”

I jump up from my chair and grab the luggage before he can, no longer caring about my coffee I didn’t finish. Laughter falls behind me as the bottom of Finn’s chair scrapes the hard floor. “I’m going to have a hard time keeping up with you this week, aren’t I?”

Turning around, I shoot him a grin. “What’s wrong? This old man moving too fast for you?”

He picks up his speed, gaining on my heels, and grabs my hand. “You aren’t that old and I’ll always have fun catching up to you. Just don’t fly too far.” He lifts my hand to his mouth and presses a kiss to the back. How many times am I going to melt this week? Soon enough someone will have to come and mop what remains of me off the damn floor if he doesn’t stop being so damn perfect.

By the time we reach the room, I am out of breath and exhaustion weighs down on me. I blame the lack of sleep last night and eating way more than I was actually hungry for.

“Is my love bird almost ready for a nap?” Finn grabs the suitcases from my hands and sets them on the bed. The very large bed where Finn will be sleeping with me every night while we’re here and maybe even more. We haven’t had sex yet and I’m hoping it’s not because he doesn’t want to. Finn moves at a different pace than others. It’s fast but also slow, and sometimes it gives me a bit of whiplash.

“Yeah,” I say between yawns. “Or I will be very soon.”

“Before the welcome party, we can come back here and rest a little. I can start the bath and help you relax. Then we can crawl under the covers and allow the world to fade away for a little bit.”

“Sounds perfect.” I open my suitcase and lay my wings and mask out on the bed, along with my matching shorts. “Will you help me get dressed?” Him doing it for me helps me slip into bird space quicker and I love being dressed by my handler, especially when it’s Finn. He’s so gentle and tender, handling me with care every time. Can this truly last? It’s hard to not want it to.

“Always.” He stands behind me, pressing a kiss to the back of my head before moving to my shoulder. Tugging at the hem of my shirt, he helps me out of it and then my jeans. I have the underwear on he rimmed me in last weekend, and he rubs his fingers over the back gussets. “You sure we can’t be a little late?”

“I’m sure. Now keep going.”

He does, starting with my shorts and working his way to my harness. After straightening my wings on my back and the feathers attached to the back of my shorts, he collects my mask from the bed. He sucks in a breath, staring at me with a look of wonder in his eyes. “You’re so beautiful.”

“Thank you,” I say without arguing. I want to believe his words, if only for these next few days.

“You’re welcome, pretty bird.” He presses a kiss to my nose before sliding the mask over my face. “So perfect and mine.”

“Yours,” I say, stopping myself from pleading with him to promise to keep me forever.

His eyes say they want to stay watching me forever and my heart whispers, “Please don’t break me.”
