They stepped back into the golden glow, and my mother replied, “No. You were just the catalyst.”

And with a snap, everything went black. Everything was painful and sore and heavy. I realized I was back in my body. My body was breathing. Something had happened. Something had saved me.

“Just remember, we always loved you,” a voice whispered.

My head was too full and fluid to make any sense of it all. I was a slave to the sensations that battered me. I drifted, unaware for a little while.

When I came to, I tried to open my eyes. They were streaming and sore, but they fluttered open to see only blurred light.

When my eyes focused, familiar brown eyes filled my vision. I croaked, “Charlie. Where are we?”
