“Excellent, follow me please,” Grace replies.

I give Sam my drink and follow Grace into the dressing room. My dress is hanging on a coat hanger on a hook. It’s absolutely stunning and I secretly can’t wait to try it on. Grace leaves and I get undressed, step into the dress then call her back to do the corset up.

“All done, are you ready to show your party?” Grace asks.

“Can you give me a moment please?” I ask.

“Of course, I’ll be outside when you’re ready,” Grace says, then leaves me.

I look at my reflection in the mirror and I hardly recognise myself. The dress is an ivory silk gown that clings to my every curve. It’s embroidered with an intricate lace bodice that stops just above my waist but is repeated around the hem of the trail. It’s as beautiful as I remember, and I get tears in my eyes. I wish my mama were her to see me, oh how I wish.

I pull myself together and pull the curtain across, then step out and walk over to the podium to stand on it. Grace goes around me, fussing with the bottom of the dress, then moves away. I take a deep breath and look over to Isadora and Sam. Sam has her hand over her mouth and tears in her eyes, Isadora has a strange look on her face that I can’t make out.

“What do you think, Miss Ivanov?” Grace asks.

“It’s beautiful, thank you,” I reply.

“What do you think ladies?” Grace asks.

“You look breathtaking Valentina; the dress is so beautiful,” Sam sniffles out.

I look over to Isadora again. God knows what the hell she’ll say about it.

“My brother is a very lucky man Valentina, you look sensational,” Isadora says.

I just stare at her in shock; I think I have my mouth hanging open, so I shut it quickly once I realise. I don’t think anybody was expecting that reply because even Grace and Sam are staring at her in shock.

“What’s the matter with everyone, I can be nice if I want to,” Isadora states.

I smile at her and turn to look in the mirror; this is the dress I’m getting married in. I feel overwhelmed so I turn back around and address Grace.

“Okay, I’ll take it off now so you can sort the girls out.” I state.

“Lovely, it fits perfectly so no other alterations will need to be done. Do you want a veil?” Grace asks.

“No thank you,” I reply.

We head to the dressing room and Grace undoes the corset, then leaves me to get out of the dress and put my clothes back on. I exit once I’m changed and take my drink off Sam, downing what’s left in the glass. I sit down, waiting to see who’s going next. Sam volunteers and heads off to the changing room.

She walks out of the dressing room a short while after, in a pale blue dress with a matching embroidered bodice to complement my dress. At the waist it turns into a flowing silk skirt which falls elegantly to the floor. She looks stunning with her black hair and bronze skin tone.

“You look so beautiful Sam; do you like it?” I ask.

“Its perfect, thank you Valentina,” Sam replies.

“Do you have these dresses in children’s sizes?” I ask Grace.

“We do, what size are you after?” Grace asks.

“What size is Juliet, Sam?” I ask Sam.

“Oh no Valentina, you don’t have to get her a dress, I already have one for her. Thank you for the offer though,” Sam replies.

“I’m getting her a dress to match her Mama’s, so what size is she?” I demand.

“She would be a two- to three-year-old,” Sam responds in defeat.

“I’ll go and have a look now, if you’d like to get out of your dress.” Grace answers before disappearing off.
