A warm smile graces Felix’s face, and his shoulders ease. As we arrive at our floor, he once again holds the door open for us, gesturing down an elegant hallway. How is it possible that an apartment in this building is being offered at such a reasonable price?

“Besides your apartment, we have a dedicated area exclusively for omegas. No betas or alphas allowed. It’s a kind of sanctuary, on the floor just below the rooftop,” he explains, shrugging casually. When we reach a door halfway down the hallway, he retrieves a key from his pocket.

I swallow hard as I brush past Felix and step into the small living area. It is exactly as it appeared in the picture. A plush, orange couch hugs one wall, while an empty bookshelf and one of the largest TVs I’d ever laid eyes on occupied the other. In this cozy room, watching TV would feel like being in a movie theater.

Stained, clouded glass doors obstruct the view of the small bedroom. Curiosity gets the better of me, and I move over to them, sliding them open. My heart skips a beat as I lay eyes on the full-sized bed adorned with the softest-looking blue comforter and an array of at least six pillows. It is a sight that makes my omega instincts rejoice.

I stand at the threshold of the petite bedroom, my gaze roaming the compact space that will soon become our home. It is only a closet, with just enough room for the bed positioned in the center and a dresser pressed against the wall. But to me, it holds the promise of a fresh start and newfound independence. A surge of excitement bubbles up within me, overpowering any reservations I may have had about the size.

“The furniture comes with the apartment, but if you don’t like it,” Felix says, his gaze sweeping across the space. “I’m sure my boss will switch it out for something more suitable.”

Something more suitable? I turn back to Felix, a wide smile spreading across my face. “This is perfect!” I exclaim, my voice brimming with genuine enthusiasm, a feeling I haven’t experienced in months. “Just what we need!”

Beside me, my brother stands with a more reserved expression, his brows slightly furrowed. Although he may not share my overwhelming excitement, he understands the significance of this moment for me. With a gentle squeeze of his hand, I can see the love and support in his eyes, silently assuring me he is by my side every step of the way.

In this life, we are a unit, bound together. When no one else has our backs, we have each other, and as long as we are together, we can overcome anything.

A knowing smile plays on Felix’s lips, and he nods in agreement. “It may be small, but it has its charm,” he says, his voice carrying a hint of understanding. “And it’s in a great neighborhood, right here in the heart of The Lower East Side. Did you want to see the roof?”

I nod absently, my eyes darting around the room as I let my imagination run wild. I envision the possibilities, picturing how we can transform this cozy space into our own sanctuary—a place filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. The size doesn’t matter; it’s the start of our journey, a place where we can build a home together. Even if it means I have to find an actual job, I am determined to keep this space.

This will be our home.

Felix holds the door for us, and we step out into the hallway. Heading in the opposite direction of the elevators, he says, “There is a separate elevator that will take you to the roof. Or you could take these stairs.” He gestures to a door we pass by. I commit the information to memory, knowing I’ll explore it later.

Silence fills the elevator as we take it to the roof, and once again, Felix studies me. The look of appreciation on his face ignites a warmth within me, stirring the omega instincts to wrap my arms around him and nuzzle my cheek against his.

What? No.We are not scenting anyone.I curl my fingers around the metal railing at my back, desperately trying to suppress the image of him pressing me against the wall. Our lips locked in a passionate kiss. Sin sniffs and raises an eyebrow at me, his knowing gaze piercing through my composure. I clench my legs together, feeling the first signs of my slick gathering between them.

Relief washes over me, pure and sweet, as the doors open to reveal a sparkling pool and a spacious deck bathed in sunlight. My eyes are drawn to the glass wall of windows showcasing the well-equipped gym. Taking in a deep breath of the fresh air, far removed from the bustling city streets, a genuine smile spreads across my face.

“My boss wants the apartment to go to someone who would love it.” Felix steps closer to me, and I instinctively wrap my hands around my stomach, trying to contain the bubbling excitement within me.

“We would love it,” I assert, my voice filled with sincerity and eagerness.

I quickly glance at Sin, silently seeking his confirmation. He lifts his shoulders and nods, his quiet support reassuring me, even as his mismatched eyes say he will not let my reaction from the elevator slide.

Turning my attention back to Felix, our eyes lock in an expectant gaze. “We’ll take it,” I declare, my voice brimming with determination. “What do we need to do to make it official?”

He offers a warm smile, his eyes shining with a sense of satisfaction. “Congratulations,” he responds, his words laced with genuine happiness. “I believe you’ll make the apartment truly special.”

As he extends the keys toward me, I tilt my head slightly, a hint of confusion crossing my face. “Don’t we need to sign anything? Fill out some paperwork?” I inquire, wanting to ensure that we follow the necessary procedures.

Felix chuckles lightly, his laughter adding a touch of warmth to the air. “Yes, to both questions,” he confirms. “But I’ll give you two a chance to settle in a bit. I have a meeting with my alpha in thirty minutes. I’ll return tonight, and we can sign the papers and exchange the paperwork.”

My fingers instinctively curl around the keys he offers, and as our fingertips brush, a jolt of awareness shoots through me, settling low in my belly. I inhale sharply, trying to conceal the surge of reaction by quickly opening my purse and tucking the keys inside.

“Thank you for showing us around,” I say.

“I assure you, the pleasure has been all mine,” he says with a touch of charm, giving a slight half bow that adds a whimsical flair. He casually flips his hair out of his eyes, tugging his lip ring into his mouth, and our gazes lock in a brief but intense moment.

Why do I want to crawl into his arms? I don’t have this reaction to men.

Caught in his gaze, I hold my breath, feeling a rush of unexpected emotions until he finally nods once and breaks eye contact. With a mixture of relief and lingering excitement, I turn back to Sin, my eyes wide with anticipation.

“We have a home!” I exclaim, unable to contain my joy any longer. I throw myself into Sin’s arms, embracing him tightly in a bear hug, reveling in the overwhelming sense of having a place to belong.

He awkwardly pats my back, returning the hug with a touch of hesitation, before shifting back on his heels to look at me. His earlier high has disappeared, and his gaze is clear and focused as he observes me.
