Make the Play

A frenemies to lovers, fake dating hockey romance

Chase
I may or may not have been in love with Zoe Carlson for years, she just doesn’t know it.
To her, I’m an arrogant, insufferable defenseman. Her favorite headache. A guy who flirts because he likes to rile her up, who pushes her buttons for fun. The jokester.
And maybe I was.
Until the night I finally kissed her. Until the night I finally had her. Until the morning she walked away like it meant nothing.
Now, she’s mine—at least in the public eye. A PR stunt. A media play. Something I’m supposed to fake.
But when she lands herself in real danger?
Game over.
And if she thinks there’s anything fake about that, she’s about to learn that when it comes to her, I’ll always make the play.

Zoe
Chase Walton is a menace. Arrogant, too damn pretty for his own good, and my brand-new fake boyfriend.
It started as damage control. A PR stunt to clean up his reputation after an ill-advised video from his playboy past surfaced. He needed stability, an image overhaul—and apparently, I’m it.
Never mind that I work for his hockey team’s PR department. Never mind that we’re in the same social circle, or that his favorite activity is getting under my skin. Never mind that I made the catastrophic mistake of sleeping with him once and now can’t stop thinking about it.
It’s fine, I can handle all of that. I can handle the staged dates, the cameras, the way he looks at me like he already knows I’d let him do it again.
What I can’t handle is the part where it stops feeling fake. The part where he moves me into his condo, takes up my space, my air, my sanity.
The part where a real threat puts me in danger, and Chase stops playing pretend.
Because the thing about Chase Walton is, he plays to win.
And this time? He’s playing for me.
