She clenched her hand into a fist. "That makes me nervous. We've done everything we can do to make sure it's a success. I hope they think so too."

He took her fist in his hand and opened her fingers. "It'll be everything you ever dreamed it would be."

The limo came to a stop and Myles grinned. "Are you ready for your spotlight?"

She set her champagne glass in the holder in front of her. Her hand immediately went to her tummy. "Yes?"

"You sound unsure."

"No. I'm sure." She took a deep breath and looked into Myles’ eyes. "Are you ready?”

"I'm ready."

The chauffeur opened her door and Myles chuckled. "Let me come around and help you."

He moved out the other door and she gathered some of the layers of chiffon to find her foot inside all that fluff. Myles appeared and held his hand out to her and the instant their hands touched, she felt calm. She arranged her dress all around her as they steadily moved toward the door. At the door, he turned to her and whispered, "Ready?"

"Yeah."

He opened the door for her and stepped aside so she could enter the reception area before him. The music filtered out to them, and voices could be heard as they neared. One more deep breath and all she’d worked for was here, her moment of truth, so to speak.

He opened the ballroom door for her, and she stepped into the most beautiful room she'd ever seen. She'd decorated all morning with everyone else on the committee, but tonight, with the lights turned low, and the music playing, it was magical. Lighted stars swirled slowly across the ceiling. Voices lowered as they entered the room and she felt regal. Lara hurried to her, her dress absolutely stunning as always.

"Shianne, you are a vision." Lara pulled her in for a hug.

Guests filtered into the ballroom. She was surrounded by friends and family and the night was everything she wanted it to be.

At ten minutes to midnight, Myles brought her a fresh glass of champagne. "I want to toast with you and kiss you at midnight."

"Thank you. I want that too."

"Good." Myles turned to Henry, who neared. "Hold this a minute, will you?"

"Sure."

Myles pulled something from his pants pocket, then bent down on one knee and her head spun. "I'd like to ring in the new year by putting a ring on your finger. Will you marry me?"

"Don't make me cry," she whispered. He laughed, a full laugh.

She laughed with him. "Yes. I can't think of a better way to start out the new year. I'll marry you."

He slipped the gorgeous ring on her finger. It rivaled all the glitter in this room tonight. Then he stood and picked her up off the floor and kissed her lips.

Their friends clapped and cheered. The music grew in volume by way of celebration. Then, it changed to a countdown. She and Myles counted down together.

"Five."

"Four."

"Three."

"Two."

"One."

"Happy New Year."

“Auld Lang Syne” filled the room and couples kissed and danced. She was then enveloped in hugs and kisses from friends and family. She was going to marry Myles Sager, and she couldn't wait.
