“No!” I gasped, but the woman continued to cut away my underwear before pushing me forward and taking my shoes off. I could now see the line running along her upper arms and shoulders; just like Jaxon, she had strength enhancers. I danced about on the cold, damp, filthy floor. This was the underworld, a place where the weak are lost and devoured by the strong.

The woman turned on the cold water like she had done this a thousand times. She grabbed a long brush and ran the soapy tool up and down my body, washing my cock and the crack of my buttocks.

After getting rinsed off, she dragged me over to a large blow dryer to dry my hair and body. She was rough and eager to finish her task. I was just another body coming through, washing, dry, hopefully dress, and move on.

“Sit!” The woman demanded after struggling to get me onto a stool. She pulled out a comb to tackle my hair but gave up on the disobedient curls and focused on my face. She pulled a spray bottle out of a pouch and sprayed my face with something that had glitter in it. Oh god! What the hell is she trying to turn me into? A Pixie?

“If ya move ya eye bleed, yeah?” She said, running the black liner around my eyes. “Ya gonna have smoky eyes and make all tha mens cocks drip drip.”

“Stop!” I turned away, having enough of this woman and her dirty makeup.

The woman grabbed me hard, threatening not to leave a visible mark but caused me a lot of pain. I reluctantly settled down, allowing her to finish her work. Once she was done, she pulled me up by the chain leading me back to the hallway.

“Wait!” I pulled back as hard as I could. Fear draining the color from my face. “Don’t make me go out there naked!”

“You ain’t the only one.” The woman rolled her eyes, uninterested in hearing another round of begging she maybe had listened to a million times. “I gots me own debts to pay.” She pulled me into the hall, only taking me a few feet before closing me in a dark room.

“Oh, God.” I breathed on the verge of a full-blown panic attack.

CHAPTER SEVEN

KAL

I stood in the room naked, alone, and afraid and recalling the events that led me to this moment as though it would give me some comfort.

Fight or flight kicked in, and anger mingled with the fear.

“Animals,” I whispered in disgust.

“Yes.” A voice answered in the dark.

I jolted at the strange yet throaty and pleasing sound which carried a light echo. Hearing nothing else, I thought I was alone.

“But necessary.”

Yes, the voice was resonant, deep, but also…quiet. A scent drifted toward me that for some reason made me think of a snowy pine forest and the roar of a crackling fire. A platter of sliced apples and pineapples and black currants sat by my side for some strange reason. I wanted to go to that place right now, and not just to escape the cold filth of this warehouse, but because…I felt someone needed me there.

It was too dark to see anything, and whoever was in here with me didn’t move an inch.

“Who are you? I’m not for sale.”

“Could have fooled me.”

In the dark was a pair of silver eyes. I shuddered. “No—”

“I won’t harm you.” The voice was calm, yet it carried with it a certain apathetic nature, like the person said what needed to be said to keep me from freaking out. “Your friend is in some serious trouble, and depending on your decision, you could be too.”

I worked up the nerve to speak up. “I understand perfectly what’s going on. I wish I weren’t in this situation, but I am.”

Shutters raised, displaying a large pane of glass. My heart thumped when I gazed inside, though I was somewhat relieved to see ordinary-looking men on the other side. But the scene wasn’t quite right. A distressed young girl poured decanters of wine into their crystal glasses. They tucked into the platter of roasted glazed duck and cheeses and exotic fruits I had never seen before. They laughed as one grabbed the girl and placed her on his thick lap, and poured the reddish liquid down her throat, much to her horror and dismay. None of them seemed to look in my direction.

They couldn’t see me, but I was no longer comforted by the sight of normal men.

“Don’t worry, they can’t see you.” There was something off about his voice, the uncanny valley. He pretended to care but doesn’t. “Men will always go above and beyond for beauty. But you would know that better than anyone.”

“And what do I know?” My voice quaked.

“Men like your friend are a dime a dozen in this town, another tech-head with too many implants and making irrational decisions as a result, like sacrificing his life for a man. But you, you were smart enough to hide your identity. I had the best agents money could buy looking into your past, and so far, it’s like you don’t even exist.”
