“Come on,” Bhoja says heading for the stairs.

“They’re across the street standing a ways apart. They’re both watching the house,” I say.

“Thank you,” Bhoja says and for a moment our eyes lock and I’m sure he’s going to say something more, but his eyes dart to the driver and it kills the moment. He snaps his mouth shut and goes down the stairs.

I feel as if I was left hanging. Not that I don’t understand, but damn I wanted him to say something more.

Love. I want him to say love. To me.

Silly. Ridiculous. I’ve been all over the map with this. Vacillating like a grain of sand in a sandstorm. Truth time is coming though and I can, honestly, say at the very least I care about him. Deeply.

Is that love? Or enough to base a love on? I’m not sure. I think so? I hope so? Staring out the window at the two Urr’ki who are, for all intents and purposes, our enemy I know that I don’t want anything to happen to him.

That’s not being honest. I know I want to explore more with him. I like the way he makes me feel. The way he looks at me. All the little, kind things he does for me. And the big things. Like the lifeless form lying behind me. That’s a big thing.

Knowing it’s there makes my skin crawl. Yes I’ve seen plenty of death, even up close and personal, since the crash. But I’ve never had to be cooped up with the aftermath before. It’s weird.

The door downstairs opens and closes as they haul in the bed, piece by piece. I watch the spies. They look bored. One of them is barely paying attention to the house at all. He calls out to someone passing by and then he and that person are having a conversation.

The other one though, that one bothers me. He’s every bit as casual and uninterested seeming, but there’s something about it that is wrong. I think it’s a show. He may look that way but I also think he’s the one paying the most attention. He’s the one watching everything, missing nothing. He’s the dangerous one.

Footsteps on the stairs announce their return. I look over my shoulder as they move to either end of the rolled up rug. I’m surprised but the rug is big enough that it doesn’t really look like there’s a body inside of it.

“They’re still there,” I say. “One of them is busy talking to someone. The other one looks like he’s not paying attention but I am sure he is.”

Bhoja grunts and nods.

“Good eye,” he compliments me and I blush hard and fast. “That’s the one to watch closest.”

My flush is burning like a fever knowing I was right. The driver nods understanding.

“You got the plan?” he asks.

“Of course, it my plan,” Bhoja says.

“Okay, let’s do this,” the driver says.

I quickly sit up and turn around.

“Wait! What about me? What am I supposed to do?”

“You will wait here,” Bhoja says.

“Again?” I ask, shaking my head.

He frowns then looks at the driver and back to me. The driver shrugs.

“Up to you,” he says.

“They know I’m protecting her,” Bhoja muses. “And at no time was I given an order I cannot take her out with me. In fact…” He trails off and I wait for him to finish. He rubs the back of his head. “I could see it being justified. I’m guarding her, how can I do that when she isn’t with me?”

“Makes sense,” the driver says.

“Okay,” Bhoja says. “You know where to meet?”

“Of course,” he says.

“And if they stop you?” Bhoja asks.
